Lots of differing opinions in the summer league thread on this guy, so I want to see for a poll what you (wayyy too early after 1 summer league game) guys think of him. Obviously his biggest knock is his shot, but he does a lot of other really nice things and looked really comfortable with the ball in his hands out there. If the SG can make up for his shooting we may have something here.

I really think we need a PG who can hit an open jumper/3 consistently.

TJ is physically over matched and if he makes the team something catastrophic happened to every other available.

Like I said elsewhere, IMO, in the NBA if you are going to be a scrappy type and lack explosiveness and the ability to blow by your man… you better be a phenomenal shooter. And he is a long ways from that. Let him play in Europe a few years where he can get PT and then maybe he will be ready for a rotational role in a few years if he adds to his offensive game. You can’t get by in the NBA anymore by being a PG who is not a threat to blow up an defense- either through your shot or penetration.

Ideally, we need Patrick Beverly type PG, scrappy and D. Then have a swingman who can breakdown perimeter defense, shoot 3s and play defense against guys like LBJ/KD. After that, we'd be always be right there with the contenders of the league every year.

I'm to busy worrying about Okafor and Embiid to care.

He looked nice. Then he shot the ball.

Probably not, prefer Jackson, Wroten and Ish. He looked solid in his first game, but he was going up against Casper Ware. I think he'll really struggle against better defenders, starting tonight against Smart/Rozier etc.

I'd rather resign Ish Smith and rotate him with Wroten and Pierre. TJ is a nice SL player.

MCConnell is like a rich man's Aaron Craft. I definitely want him on the main roster. Especially if they don't bring back Ish. There should be room for McConnell and Jackson.

So I'm gonna go ahead and resurrect this. 12 assists and 0 turnovers in his fourth ever NBA game. The guy is turning me into a believer.

He's OK. Still holds the ball and dribbles in circles too much, but I chalk that up to being a rookie and overzealous. If he settles down, he could be a great find as a set-up PG.

Yeah while I hadn't posted in this thread before, if I had, I would have been saying "No Way"

And in the meantime, it's become quite obvious that he's the only actual healthy point guard on our roster.

He reminds me of the old style point guards from the late 80's/early 90's.....He reminds me of guys like Scott Skiles, Haywood Workman, Ricky Green (who played with us for a year), Avery Johnson. He's not going to score a lot of points and he's not going to really do anything spectacular. I'd hate to see him try and guard Russell Westbrook or Stephen Curry but McConnell is all heart and IQ on the floor. He was very impressive last night in my opinion. Twelve dimes and no turns on this turnstile roster can't be ignored. He's by no means a future starter, but he can be a quality backup and certainly a guy you want on your team if and when we do start to win games. I think he'll improve as time goes on, and if he can somehow develop an jumpshot or better yet a shot beyond the arc, he'll prove to be a total steal. Not bad for an undrafted rookie, and so far it looks like we made the right call keeping him over Jackson.

On a decent team he is a third point guard, a guy who can fill in steadily if one of the top two are injured, possibly add a spark in a game where things are going poorly. If he could shoot a decent three point prcentage he would be a second unit guard.

I would hate to see anyone try and guard Steph Curry or Westbrook. Those guys are pretty much going to get theres any given night, unless it is like Kawhi Leonard out there for the explicit purpose of slowing them down.

Not to mention that he out rebounded Okafor last night as well,lol

Okafor does box out, he just doesn't seem to hustle to get the rebounds himself, probably helped TJ get some of those rebounds.
