Re: Welcome Zhaire Smith
Basketball IQ to me can be measured by assists, stls, deflections while being a plus for the team on both ends. That means he can read plays and anticipate them before it happens.
Sometimes guys are just good storytellers like Embiid or they spend too much time on the court that all they know is basketball.
He's another atleast 10BPM. Crazy stls and blk numbers for his position. His team plays best on offense when he's on court at 123 ORtg.
My only concern for him is he's skillset is great for a wing. But he's too short to be a wing. While he has great size to be a combo guard but his skillset is too undeveloped to be a combo guard.

There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Norman Powell is an interesting comp for him. Hopefully a younger better version of Norman.

His physical tools are crazy, he will be a great dunker and defender. His handle is improving, and his shot, albeit slow, seems to have goood mechanics. He seems really focused, aparently loves to train. I think he´s a hard worker, if he can develop his shot he can be an all star.
Good article. Seems like a good kid with a great work ethic. We at least know he will put the time and effort in to get better. Whether he ever gets there who knows, but it won't be for lack of trying.
Yea this was a good read. At least he seems like he will be a good locker room guy and a hard worker, not that Mikal wouldn’t have been. I like that we are drafting high character guys though. Hopefully this will keep our locker room chemistry positive.

Maybe it is me but he resembles Derrick Rose in his movement/body type, obviously without the handles.

Re: Welcome Zhaire Smith
I was legit stunned by the trade. Once they took Bridges I didn’t think there was any shot they’d deal him, and frankly I didn’t think they thought they would either, I just think the Suns blew them away and with their obvious plan to pursue Kawhi this summer this gives them important ammo.
Brett seems to be gushing about his potential of becoming a shot creator. I’m skeptical. I would have preferred Walker. It Walker was no sure thing either. For his talent he was inconsistent, disappeared at times. I think Smith has crazy potential, if he reaches it and develops a handle he could be tremendous. How likely it is, not sure. Just hope we don’t regret passing on some other guys there. I’m more concerned about passing on Walker than Bridges to be honest, I don’t think I could ever regret trading away a solid starter, which is what I see Bridges as, but I think Walker could be better.
But we got an elite athlete and they don’t grow on trees and you can’t teach that so if he develops the other stuff he could be great.

He has something in his fluidity that is different, unlike many raw stiff athletic freaks, I see something special about the way he moves, maybe I'm wrong tho.

I cant figure out why u guys care so much about his height.. he has really good length which matters more than the height of his head.. add in his incredible speed and athleticism there is no reason he cant play SF.. he just turned 19.. its likely he grows a bit more too.. in a league that is moving more n more to positionless bball and small ball, this is the least concerning thing...

So we’re hoping Smith turns into Avery Bradley who is actually good at defense?

I think we're hoping he turns into Oladipo or something like that.

Pretty disappointed with this pick....reminds me a lot of...SHANNON BROWN.
Very similar measurements, skills and attributes.

I think we are hoping 1 of 2 things...
1. Smith turns into an elite level defender who can create his own shot and knock down 3s consistently.
Or
2. Smith turns into (literally) Kawhi with a 4 year extension and Lebron.

It's weird that he played 5 in hs and 4 in college. Like you hear about guys like AD who were guards then exploded height wise. But the opposite seems like it wouldn't be a good thing. I know nothing about this guy except what I've seen today though, so I'm just going to wait and see.

Shannon Brown, KJ McDaniels, Rodney Carney
A+ athletes no skills
Big difference between all theses guys and Zhaire is that they came out as upper class men. So they had less time to develop skills.
Zhaire has much more time. We will see.

I think the player comparison is where things get lost, because very rarely does a player end up being like their player comparison. Just because a guy has traits that resemble some guys doesn't mean the player will develop into them or even the same trajectory.

Well, to be fair, Shannon Brown was not THAT far off from being a #16-pick value player. He just didn’t put a few things together to be able to improve and stick around the league longer. If Smith does, he can easily become a much better player than Brown did.

Funny thing is, Shannon Brown is on the roster of our G-league team, Delaware. It would be fun if Smith spends some time in the G-league alongside Shannon Brown.
