Maybe or maybe because Embiid was 50/50 at that point (see lowe/hinkie interview), dario was not 100% sure he’s going to play for us while he flopped three lottery picks. The later reason is less conspiracy theory.

Or just the odds. Realizing that each lottery is independent, if you add 2014, 2015 and 2016 together (17.1% to win the third pick from second place, 15.6% to win the third pick from third place, and 25% to win the first pick from first place), it comes to 57.7%.

This year as well, Atlanta has two swings 10.5% from five and 6.7% eight, thus combined 17.2%, which is better odds than the Knicks at one.

You can't add the odds of Dallas winning the first pick because it is a top 5 protected pick.

I didn't realize that. Thanks.

Dallas' 1st round pick to Atlanta protected for selections 1-5 in 2019, 1-5 in 2020, 1-3 in 2021 and 1-3 in 2022 and unprotected in 2023 [Atlanta-Dallas, 6/21/2018]

Geez. This draft protections can drag out forever. Half a decade to realize a draft pick

Like sixers had to wait till 2018 to realize the lakers first round pick. (Originally from 2012 steve Nash lakers/suns trade) which sixers acquired in 2015

That’s 6 years.

I guess the max u can protect a pick is 7 years?

The nfl doesn’t do this. I don’t think mlb or nhl have protections either.

We need to do away with draft protections.
