He probably should be but I imagine there are a few factors that bother teams. His jumper is a little wonky. Non-traditional will likely scare teams despite his good FT% and 3pt%. He doesn't get to the line quite as much as you'd like from your lead guard.

I have no doubt that he'll pan out, but there's certainly a ceiling to his game. Feels like a positive starter, but not an all star, to me at least. That said, in this draft that valuation is probably a top five pick.

Good point. His free throw rate sucks.

I'll be shocked if he goes in the mid to late second. He checks almost every box as a prospect. Age and sub 2 STL% hurt him, but he is ridiculously versatile on offense. At 6'5, teams can hide him on defense.

I'm kinda bored, so here is a big board broken down by prospects that fill all of my statistical prerequisites for their position, fill almost all, fill some, or missing too many. I'm leaving out international.

Fill all:
Ja Morant
Coby White
Jaxson Hayes
Nickeil Alexander-Walker
Tyler Herro
Chuma Okeke
Terence Davis
Shamorie Ponds
Tremont Waters
Dedric Lawson

This was from last year and my evaluation has changed a bit, but I do like that Tyler Herro made the list. Once again, it was purely statistical, so that's why you're not seeing Zion on here. I whittled down the list more to reflect the players in our range and I feel like I was a bit too high on Shamorie Ponds which has probably been reflected more in this year's draft by how I view body type and and height. I might do this again as we get closer to the draft.

Noah Levick: Desmond Bane says the Sixers are one of the 26 teams he’s spoken with and that they have “a lot of interest.” He says Elton Brand wasn’t on his interview and that it was led by VP of scouting Vince Rozman.

There's a few deficiencies that bother me about Bane's game, but he's not the worst prospect for our team to be going after.

I like that it seems like we're somewhat invested in using 21 to bolster the roster. Adding it onto Al or something is just lazy general managing

Can we see a 2020 list with these same metrics?

I don't like that we're in contact with Desmond Bane. I don't see the appeal in him.

Can't score off the dribble or defend. Just a big-bodied wing that shoots a lot.

Agreed. Haliburton is a guaranteed hit IMO.

He's a phenomenal defender and he's ultra smart and efficient on the offensive end. Probably the best winning piece in this draft. Wouldn't surprise me if Golden State took him 2nd overall.

There's a lot of Delon Wright to his game. The difference is that Wright was essentially a finished product with not a lot of room for improvement by the time he got to the league. Haliburton is still pretty young and looked much different from his freshman to sophomore year. Meaning, he might be even better down the line.

I don't like Sam Merrill.

He can sling it, for sure.

But he's going to be so easy to defend at the next level. His off-dribble scoring is pretty weak, IMO, and he moves very slowly. And he'll get abused mercilessly on the defensive end.

Really dislike prospects with shooting as a leading trait. Irreguardless of the success of Tyler Herro and Jamal Murray in the playoffs. Herro would be nowhere without Jimmy Butler (see Devin Booker) and Murray is in a world-class organization with an incredibly deep team. He could very well be just as much of a loser as Bradley Beal if he had his own team.

I'll try to remember what I did. I'm sure it was along the lines of +73 FT% (for guards, 70% for C), +2 STL%, +10 AST% (for guards), <.55 TS%, and probably +.2 FTr (which feels low, but Herro was included, so whatever). I'm sure there was something else along those lines, but it feels a little dated to me. I'll add my recent metric of +4 OBPM and +2 DBPM which would pretty much keep everyone on the above list intact aside from Morant, however there is a caveat: The only players I consider with a less than 2 BPM are guards with +8 OBPM (Dame Lillard, Trae Young in their final years in college). Ja had an 8.3 OBPM and misses the mark barely with 1.7 DBPM. I'll also ignore int'l prospects. And I clipped it out from my quoted original post, but I'm pretty lenient on bigs. I won't ding them for < 10 AST%, but they still need a > 2 STL%

Fill all:
Onyeka Okongwu
Devin Vassell
Tyrese Haliburton
Tyler Bey
Devon Dotson
Paul Reed
Skylar Mays
Killian Tillie
Malachi Flynn
Payton Pritchard
Mason Jones

Notes:

-Anthony Edwards is pretty dreadful as the top pick.

-Wiseman kinda fills most, but also it's impossible to evaluate 3 games, so I just left him out.

-Josh Green feels like a guy who will reach the "Fill all" section as his game grows based on all other aspects of his game. The OBPM being sub 4 feels lower than his ability based on the eye test. Tyrell Terry too.

-Tre Jones and CJ Elleby just off with a .52 TS%; Bane and Trevelin Queen just off with a sub .2 FTr; Cassius Winston and Ty-Shon Alexander with a 1.9 DBPM; Xavier Tillman with a sub 70% FT but jeez, he blows out every other category.

-Sam Merrill and Markus Howard just miss because of their STL% but have some of the higher OBPM in this draft. Kaleb Wesson also just misses because of STL%.

I'll add more if I have time later. Obviously I like a lot of prospects that just miss the list and eye test is still quite important, but it's nice to filter the options down when you have later picks in the draft.

Didn't he have a knee injury or something that ended his season?

The more I'm watching Mason Jones and Killian Tillie, the more I feel like these two guys would add some much needed BBIQ to the team. I know there are concerns with athleticism, but they hit all the sweet spots statistically and have shown a great understanding of the game. Feel like they would both amplify Embiid's game.

This is how the Warriors stay as one of the best teams in the NBA: selecting guys with star attributes.

Philadelphia is on the clock in the NBA draft subforum.

We'd appreciate 76'ers fans input!

Would be a tough outcome with so many good options falling. Josh Green would probably be our best bet at that point though. Definitely not Cole Anthony.

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
