Sixers Media Day/Training Camp

Post#1 » by eyeatoma » Fri Sep 27, 2019 9:42 pm

Hey guys,

With media day starting on a bunch of teams think it would be cool to post all the videos and news from Media day and training camp in here.

So, does anyone know when sixers media day is, and when training camp starts.

Think the most important news we've heard so far is that Ben won't be in the dunkers spot, and Jo looks like a beast with his weight loss.

Excited to get back to Sixers basketball for what I think has the potential to be an extremely special season.

Love seeing how Zhaire looks back to normal physically. Hoping that he can be a rotation player this year, but of course the biggest factors in our growth will be Embiid’s stamina and health, and Simmons’ ability to shoot the ball.

None of the Simmons videos really impressed me this summer, but if he has improved confidence, form, and balance then I’m sure that we will see bottom line improvement for him, and the team as a whole.

I think that Embiid is fairly ranked right now as the 7th or 8th best player in the league, but I think that he will move up into the top 3 this season if he is slimmer, and can stay healthy for the whole year and throughout the playoffs.

A few things I'm interested in seeing:

1. Brown's initial plans on the rotations and how he plans to split up the starters among the bench units. I'm thinking Ben/Thybulle/Ennis/Harris/Horford and Burke/Richardson/Zhaire/Scott/Embiid.

2. How the battle between Burke and Neto ends up and the battle for wing minutes between Ennis/Zhaire/Thybulle/Korkmaz

3. Whether Harris looks better being the number one option on his bench unit.

4. What's up with Simmons as always.

1. Brett won't play 10 in non back to backs, I assume Scott will just be in both of those lineups at the expense of Zhaire or Thybulle

2. Agreed

3. Probably

4. Of course

The only thing worth monitoring is Simmons development with his jump shot. There is no doubt he has the potential to be the best player in the league, it's just a matter of when. But he needs a jump shot to reach that level, and I'm confident he got one this offseason.

1. Simmons: Want to see if he can get to 70+ FT%, so he can be useful at the end of games.

2. Embiid: Want to see his condition and whether he can maintain the changes he's made to his diet.

3. Want to see whether Matisse OR Zhaire can play themselves into legitimate rotation pieces.

It'll be interesting to see who our 8th and 9th rotational guys are (assuming Scott and Ennis are 6th and 7th).

I predict Burke will beat out Neto because he brings a more needed skillset to this team. Neto is a solid defender and stable game manager, but the backup unit with Embiid will need shot-creating and shot-making ability from the perimeter, which Burke excels at.

After that, I think it's Zhaire vs. Matisse for the final spot. This one's harder to predict, but I think Zhaire will win out. He's more skilled offensively and will be a superior floor-runner with Ben. It may just come down to who's a better shooter because our offense will be behind our defense IMO. I think Mattise will eventually take Ennis's role next season when we can't afford to keep him (or if Matisse steps us this season and takes the spot).

Pre-Training Camp Rotation Predicition (rough minute estimations):

Simmons(33)/Burke(15)
Richardson(33)/Smith(10)/Burke(5)
Harris(18)/Ennis(20)/Smith(10)
Horford(12)/Harris(16)/Scott(20)
Embiid(32)/Horford(16)
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:

Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Barlow/Watford/Walker
Embiid/Drummond/Bona/Broome

1.) I want to see how Trey Burke look like in a Sixers retro jersey with braids.

I haven't got an app or know-how to look it up (not a stats geek), but wasn't Simmons ft shooting in the high 70's % for the last 20 or so games of the regular season ?

Showed a decent improvement. I hope that confidence flows to a mid-range catch & shoot.

No. I don't think Simmons had a 70% Free thow shooting percentage at the end of the season. Unless I'm filtering incorrectly, Simmons shot 64% the last 22 games (Post All-star break).

I'm probably in the minority, but I'm not really as concerned with his Jumper or 3 point shot as I am his FT%. You can't have your PG out there, afraid to shoot FTs at the end of the game. If Simmons were to somehow get up to consistently hitting 75% of his FTs, that solves most of the 76ers end of game issues.

He also shot 70% FT in 2018 playoffs, then proceeded to shoot 57% FT in playoffs 2019. So it is more a sample size thing than a real improvement, he is very inconsistent, so hopefully he has improved.

I dont think we will see Ben reach his true MVP form until his body matures more. Once he gets a steady jumper and more man muscle he will be unstoppable. We are really set for the future and barring injury we will be competing for a championship every year for the next five years.

honestly think Trey Burke is gonna be the new Bayless. The fanbase is gonna hate him. He sucks as a player, but he’s gonna get playing time by default with us having no bench.

I think if Bayless was on a minimum contract there wouldn't have been the negative reaction to him other than being injured all the time.

Also, Id probably have Neto as the favorite to win the backup PG duties anyway.
