As posters mentioned, Philly most likely don't want to use Simmons value to mainly dump Horford's contract but what if Horford is being traded for an equally bad or worse contract? Simmons would mostly retain his value in trade to a degree depending on the player value he's being traded for. I've read about Philly's interest in CP3. I've seen an iteration of this trade being mentioned on the Minnesota board & modified it to meet OKC's demands on not wanting long term salary, included Memphis for that purpose ..

Minnesota trade - (Johnson, Culver, #1, #17) for (Simmons, #40)

OKC trade - (CP3) for (Dieng + Johnson = 31m exp, Richardson, #25, #33)

Sixers trade - (Simmons, Horford, Richardson, #25) for (CP3, Anderson, Guduric = small expiring filler, #1)

Memphis trade - (Dieng, Anderson, Guduric, #40) for (Horford, Culver, #17)

- Simmons is worth more than the #1 pick, I have his remaining value making up the "player" value difference between Horford & CP3. His overall value netting Philly a PG that can lead, shoot, a young 2 way defensive SF/PF, the top pick & cap relief.

- Minnesota get their star player & defender in Simmons to compliment Kat & DLo, especially on the defensive end for an expiring contract, Culver, #1, #17.

- OKC get 31m in expiring value (Dieng/Johnson) for CP3, where their Owner & Franchise are feeling the Covid financial hit. In combination with the value of a young player in Richardson & a couple picks. OKC save considerable money on Paul & with the Houston picks they received for taking on that salary in the first place, they're now able to tank with house money & no financial burden, risk.

- Rebuilding Memphis take on Horfords contract to land a young wing in Culver who didn't have the best of rookie seasons & the 17th pick. My fellow Memphis fans were not as high on taking on Horford for Culver.

Must be depressing to have the #1 pick this year.

PHI gives: Horford, Smith, Korkmaz, Pelle, pick 21
PHI gets: CP3
Have to move some young pieces and a pick with Horford to get CP3

CHO gives: Batum
CHO gets: Horford, Smith
Charlotte could use Horford but the long-term nature of the contract is off-putting. They get pick 21 as compensation.

OKC gives: CP3
OKC gets: Batum, Korkmaz, Pelle, pick 21
OKC have highlighted that they don't want to take on large long-term salary, Batum is cost saving for OKC and they get Korkmaz and Pelle as an incentive for the trade.

Its like we are seeing the same 4 trades posted over and over in the hopes that we speak it into existence. But none of them are truly exciting.

CP3, Jrue/JJ, Buddy...

I mean, for my money I'd say if you put Buddy for Horford straight up, and move JRich for a SF, and find a backup PG worth a damn, this Sixers team is likely in at least the ECF, maybe the NBA Finals. But I just don't see a Buddy trade happening without a massive overpay.

I think CP3 has too many other suitors who can and will outbid the Sixers.

I think Jrue is one of the hottest commodities this offseason, and that's if NOP actually made him available. And the cost would be astronomical.

Buddy is maybe the most realistic trade target, but even then I don't know if I trust Elton to make the smartest decisions.
Your Future Sixers:

C- Embiid/Patton
PF- ?/Bolden
SF- Butler/?
SG- ?/Zhaire
PG- Simmons/Shamet

I can't see OKC accepting such an underwhelming haul for CP3.

No long term money, young player on rookie deal, 1st rounder. Meets their stated criteria. Also they got paid to take Paul last year, he is still owed 86M over two years, and the Thunder appear to be getting ready to tank the year before SGA is too good for that plan to be effective.

Yeah, I suspect people underrate the value of an expiring and salary savings to OKC.

GSW probably don't trade down though to take Wiggins for Horford. I think Horford is seen as less valuable than Wiggins right now.

Fair enough regarding the savings, but CP3 will likely have multiple teams pursuing him thus driving up the price.

I'd also argue that Zhaire Smith isn't the young prospect they were describing. They're looking for actual NBA caliber players.

Pretty sure all the teams in the “hunt” for CP3 think they see a buy low opportunity. Also, Presti may have promised Paul he would deal him, so it’s like Memphis with Iguodala. Settled on a deal with bad money attached just to get one player they liked and keep their promise to the agent.

But if this becomes a legitimate bidding war on a “vet All Star PG”... the Sixers need to stay far, far away.

I don't see how other than maybe positional scarcity. Just about every advanced metric has Horford much better than Wiggins.

Phi in: beasley (s&t 18 mil 3 years), bullock, m. Robinson, nr 8 2020, 2rnd 2021 Charlotte
Out: jrich, korkmaz, scott, nr 34 2020, nr 49 2020

Min in: jrich, payton, nitilikina, korkmaz, nr 34 2020, dal 2021 1rnd
Out: nr 1 2020, beasley, johnson

Nyk in: nr1 2020, johnson, scott, nr 49 2020
Out: payton, robinson, nitilikina, bullock, nr 8 2020, 1 rnd Dallas 2021, 2 rnd Charlotte 2021

If one of the teams wants Some more you can be flexible with picks (for example, If min thinks they Dont get enough and phi agree, phi can get their nr 17 2020 and min get nr 8 2020).

Minnesota needs strong defenders and gets 3 good defenders for their 1st , and late 1 rnd 2021 and nr 34 2020
Nyk get their no 1 pick (la melo) and still cap room 2021 for big free agent.

Phi uses asset jrich for better fitting players, because we probably cant resign him 2021 (and we cant resign korkmaz then either).Robinson can be Embiid back up. Now phi must try Some kind of trade to get rid horford of alongside with z. Smith and probably kind of pick (s)(and get hield?, lavine is not realistic i think). Horford and Smith , nr 21, 2 future 2nd rounds for hield and salary filler?
And try to get creating pg/sf who can create their own shot (like burks). I Dont think phi can resign burks/Glenn Robinson.
In this scenario 2020 picks are 8, 21, 36, 58
2021 1st phi, 2nd cha, 2nd nyk, 2nd phi or hou
Using 3 picks to fill roster maybe wise considering cap room/luxury tax

Pg Simmons, Milton, pick or mle
Sg hield (?), beasley, , Milton
Sf thybulle, bullock, pick or mle
Pf Harris, Simmons, pick
C Embiid, robinson, pelle, could be pick or vet min

Would it be a championship team, maybe not, but it is a better fit than 2020. Good pick choices are necessary/Will help a lot.

Wiggins will be 26 (or very close to it) when next season starts. You can’t really use the potential card for him anymore.

This would be like a 6th option, but if they can’t get any of the other usual suspects and this was available... I’d pull the trigger.

I think age is one aspect of potential, opportunity is another, role is another.

Wiggins hasn't been short on any of those. He's been a starter since the jump and has played nearly 36 mpg.

He's had no structure. He's had opportunity to ball and score, which he has. Hasn't had a structure or a role required to add to winning basketball though. He's not a star player but he could be an elite role player, never had the opportunity before to be one.
