Horford confirms he will be coming off the bench

Post#1 » by Stanners » Thu Feb 20, 2020 11:52 am

Personally I think this is a great move, the stats agree:

Al Horford's per 36 stats w/o Joel Embiid on the court:

17.4/8.2/4.9 on 54% TS

Al Horford's per 36 stats w/ Joel Embiid on the court:

6.4/6.9/3.7 on 42.2% TS

They'll still share around the same amount of time on the court together, just at different times during the game, so hopefully it helps. Honestly surprised at the per 36 splits though, that's a gigantic drop off...

But will he be ending the game with the starters?

Is it possible to get a double condition analysis to show when Ben is on / off during those times?

Wonder what kind of impact that would show.

Necessary move that makes us better. I'm assuming they'll give Korkmaz another start tonight?

I'd be interested to see if GRIII is able to play some backup 4 thus pushing Scott out of the rotation. I could also see a Pelle/Horford frontcourt being effective off the bench in certain situations.

Not necessarily. I don't have all of the lineup data, but I know that the Simmons-Horford-Embiid pairing only played 6 minutes together, down from the 13.4 they were averaging together. I'm sure the same is true of just the Horford-Embiid pairing.

It was only the first game they tried it, so there's probably even more room for improvement. Horford and Embiid both played 28 minutes, which means they only have to share the court for 8 minutes of overlap if that continues. Even then, I could see Horford's minutes trimming down to 25ish, which would only leave 3 minutes of them sharing the court. This all changes when we cut down to a playoff rotation and minutes rise though.

What a TERRIBLE move by Elton Brand. To make this worse he has 3 more yrs in his contract and he's 33 years old.

Hope we can trade him for something decent in the offseason.

The primary reason the 76ers got bounced last year was not having a backup for Embiid.

Hordford was to be that guy and plays well with Simmons, but gee - deandre jordan gave him an absolute bath tonight

I don't really care for his stats. He is a great for us off the bench setting up the offense and orchestrating defense.

It’s lot of for backup center. Horford costing Sixers 27/28 million the next 2.5 years. And the 4th year is manageable at 12 million though. Plus 12 more million if Sixers win title.

This is why Boston probably only guaranteed him less years and less money.

All is forgiven if Sixers go to nba finals. But it’s doesn’t look good for Sixers. They can’t take off entire 12 min stretches like yesterday 44-8 run. That won’t work in playoffs for Sixers to blow a game. Especially since they will be on the road in 2nd round. Maybe on road in 1st round.

Only 19 minutes for him last night. Wonder if they’ll make him available in future trade talks if this keeps up.

I dont think he will want to stay as a back up. The minutes are not there for him especially in the playoffs.

The 4th year isn't manageable. That stipulation isn't for his salary for year, it's for how much of that salary is guaranteed (14.5M vs 19.5M of the 26.5M).

I’d love for him to find a team willing to pay him $28M...don’t see it happening though. He’s gotta be top 10 worst contract in the sport right now?
