I never really expected him to reach Doncic levels of offensive ability. I felt like he was going to be prime Boris Diaw on steroids (which is an extremely good player).

Ben never showed an inclination to shoot at LSU and it never really felt like him being a knockdown 3pt shooter would be realistic.

Yeah, Simmons cannot be as versatile as Doncic on offense even if he reaches his amazing potential. But improving as a shooter and being way more aggressive will be enough to surpass Embiid as an offensive force, he is just too passive and defers too much.
Great takes since 2024-04-20

Doncic is a mediocre or below average shooter. 31.6% three point shooter and 76% ft shooter this year. He scores most of his points through drives and fts which is unbelievable for a player with his athleticism.

So it should really show my lack of confidence in Ben's shooting if I don't think he can be a 30% 3FG or a 75+% FT shooter. Especially that three point percentage in volume. He's clearly not comfortable with that shot while Luka obviously doesn't think twice about it.

There's a gaping chasm between "knockdown 3pt shooter" and never ever shoots at all. Amazingly enough we haven't bridged any of it in FOUR YEARS.

Nonsense. The vast majority called Simmons a 6'10 Rondo.

Yeah theres never really been a comparison there. Luka has been a proven professional scorer and playmaker from the get go. Ben Has been mostly hope. Hope he can be a full time PG, hope he can defend , hope he can be a willing shooter and ft shooter. Idk man

I think initially the hope, among non scepticists\haters was for him to be a Lebron lite down the ride. The 6'10 Rondo, which isnt really much worse, was mentioned by the scepticists\haters.
