I've heard a lot of people say Doc should just stagger better... Take Maxey out earlier then reinsertion at the end of the quarter. (Haven't really heard that on this forum though).

But it seems that coming in at the 5 minute ish mark allows him to come in fresh, get integrated slowly with Joel and James, then explode. He's not utilizing extra energy on defense by starting and playing as a role player with Harden and Joel... But more conserved for the leading man role and it seems to benefit him and have a better defender in there starting for the team.

Maybe Doc put Maxey on SGA when they played OKC recently to help lubricate the wheels of "coming off of the bench" for Maxey.
The Accession of Paul Reed is upon us !

Bring on the draft

You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

Dude is mature and self-aware beyond his years....Rivers doesn't deserve this kinda gift to drop in his lap, and yet we're groovin with a much better team balance (especially with the emergence of Melton). We'll see how long this honeymoon lasts before Klutch Sports steps in....

Im not that high compared to others on Maxey. But I dont think Lavine is better than Maxey. Seems like Maxey is a better defender, more reliable shooter and a better team player. But yeah, if i have to choose for the slam dunk contest it would be Lavine

Maxey better defender? lol
The only competition is Trae Young and Bustangelo, only these players have an argument as being equal or worse on defense.

Who's Bustangelo? Not clever bro.. Either way, this statement is beyond untrue. Maxey is no Gary Payton on defense, but he's not a traffic cone either. He's a decent team defender, he just doesn't do well on an island trying to guard Shai Gilgeous...Nobody does....He's averaging 30 ppg this year. I'd say he's pretty much unstoppable at this point. Maxey is right where he needs to be at the moment which is coming off the bench. It's working, we're winning games, lets just enjoy it.

Guy hates Maxey for no reason. Just slobbers all over Joel every thread.

Maxey will eventually be a neutral defender. Still young.

He gets torched by most players, that's why he needs to come off the bench, simple as that. It would be one thing if we were short of guys that can score on offense, but with Embiid and Harden in the SL, it's more than enough, he can come off the bench no problem.
He is young, he may improve on defense maybe, but we are in win now mode, he can develop his defense in the bench.

His improvement in the last games is truly remarkable, he needs to be in the starting lineup.

So after a good enough sample size, Maxey is a slightly negative player with -0.13 RPM, Melton is a much better player.
That's why we needed to trade him while his value was still decent.

You mean that because he has a slightly negative RPM, we cannot trade him anymore?

Nope, GM are enamored with youth and potential, and Maxey can get hot at times, of course only at times but it's enough to have trade value. Let him be another team's problem.

Time to end the Maxey bench experiment. Sounds good in theory does not account for human factors and emotions. And it's counterproductive to be hard headed about it and say "well Maxey needs to suck it up". He's better as a starter and lost as a 6th man so being a starter makes us a better team.

Again it's no mystery why he's coming off the bench, Melton is the 94th best player in the league, while Maxey is the 145th best player in the league.

You lack nuance in any argument. The actual question is what is the difference in how Maxey performs as a starter vs. bench and the same for Melton. Melton plays the same either way and Maxey plays much better as a starter. Which combo makes the team better?

The only real difference in Maxey's numbers as a starter vs. as a reserve is his three point percentage.

Starter: 45.5% field goal, 39.3% three point, 80.4% free throw, 56.5% true shooting
Reserve: 44.7% field goal, 35.3% three point, 82.8% free throw, 55.7% true shooting

We waited too long to sell high on him. Hopefully Miami would still accept him for Butler.
