He's leading the NBA in TS at a ridiculous .796 w/a career high 26.4 pp100. Obviously unsustainable, yet he's def a good bet to put up crazy good numbers by the time the season is over.

He's shown he can shoot (obviously), attack a closeout into the midrange, get closer and use the floater, or get all the way to the rim. He's shown he can run the P&R and DHO effectively too. He competes on defense and hasn't been exploited much on that end. All of this has unlocked the Ben + Jo lineup, perhaps even better than when Redick was here.

Plus, he's locked in for the next 3 years at $8M/yr. What a steal of a trade.

He's so much more effective than Redick simply because he's not a complete zero on defense. While he can't make those crazy laterally moving 3 pointers in traffic like Redick, he is so much more deadly on the wide open looks. And as you said, he can do so much more on the dribble than Redick ever could. This is the best value contract in the NBA even when he cools down a little bit which has to happen eventually, right?

I’m trying to figure out why in the hell Dallas made that trade.

Its still hard for to process how good he is and how good of a fit. Is this for real? If so, how has he gotten so cheaply.

Even without the fit, I have a hard time taking Richardson over Curry. I feel like Richardson is mediocre to pretty good at a lot of things whereas Curry has been very good at good amount of things. Either way both are role players and I think I'd rather have more efficient/elite low usage player.

I want to say its because Seth was a liability on defense against the Clips. But Seth has the highest plus minus among their guys in the playoffs.

1 trick pony

That’s JJ Redick. Not Seth Curry.

That's because you're choosing to evaluate the take while Seth hitting over 3 threes per game at a nearly 60% clip. Why not wait for reality to set in before judging it?

What I've always said is Seth presents no defense and no shotcreation (which has been 100% the case through 8 games).

Why do you think Seth will prevail where other shooting specialist have let us down in the playoffs?

Totally agree. With how good his percentages are, he should shoot more.

Seth Curry is very much a perfectionist. I think that's his hesitation with taking certain shots.

I think it's probably a little bit more complicated than that. We're asking him for a lot more offensively than he's used to. He made his money and stuck around in the league by simply hitting open shots and attacking close outs/keeping the ball moving. Our offense needs him to take more closely contested 3s and that runs counter to a lot of the habits he's built up throughout his career.

An enigma.

He played well in the playoffs. Probably our team’s biggest surprise.

He averaged.
18.8ppg
2rpg
2apg
.578 FG%
.50 3pt%

He pretty much also shot that well for the Mavs in 2020 playoffs but with lesser points per game.

I want to say his numbers is because he went up against smaller defenders but if you’ll watch the tape he’s making step back 3s, jumpers and against taller defenders who are closing out.

I feel like he can’t play this way for a long duration because its very taxing. So he’s just pacing for the playoffs. If that’s the case this guy is a keeper and would be great for us off the bench.

Conservatively.. let’s say we won’t be able to make major roster overhaul. Everyone’s favorite villain, Ben Simmons, still is a Sixer. I think it’s non negotiable for Morey to find another Seth who can play defense and have that guy start for us.

A Seth who can play defense is a star and hard to find.

We saw the best and worst of Seth Curry this series. Offensively he was great. Defensively he was a massive liability, and Huerter pretty much won the game for the Hawks by cooking him on ISO's.

Conservatively, Im talking about finding a Seth who can play defense. Not necessarily a star.

Then we slide Seth off the bench

Yes, I don't think this has been talked about enough. Seth Curry was a huge liability, they targeted him was a major factor in the loss. I kept wondering all series why the Sixers couldn't do the same to Trae.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it had a lot to do with us having only 4 starters on the floor who are threats to score so Trae was able to leave his man and play a lot of help defense.

Also the fact that our coach is inferior to Atlanta's in exploiting match-ups that would normally favor us.

And in the clutch we only had 3 players or 2 players who were offensive threats when Ben + Matisse and/or Hill were on the floor. Just ridiculous for Glenn to keep running those offensively inept lineups out there when it matters. He coached scared just like Ben played scared.

Cause we have Bum Rivers as a coach. Hawks literally played Trae-Lou backcourt for solid periods of time and we did nothing about it.

How good can this guy be?

Lead the league in catch and shoot 3s at 49%.

Averages 44.3% on 3s for his career.

They say he can be the league’s best 3pt shooter.

He’s only 29. At his age, JJ just moved from Mil to Clips and was just averaging 15ppg. Both can be just as good at the same age.

JJ had his best years with us. At age 33 and 34, averaging 17-18ppg.

We always knew JJ is a rental, because of his age. We tried finding the next JJ in Shamet and Milton. But I think we can have our younger and potentially better JJ in Seth.

Seth played well on the Clips series. Mavs were -26 NetRtg when he’s off the court. And +3 NetRtg when he’s on the court.

I wont be surprised if Seth averages 15-18ppg for us next season. This is just a tremendous opportunity for Seth.

Why Seth Curry can be the best low usage scorer of all time
This may like a ridiculous statement, but the stats back it up. This is NOT an overreaction to his perfect shooting performance last night, but rather a long-standing belief about my favorite player in the league.

Many people think Seth Curry is just a shooter, but this is far from the truth. Seth is one of the most versatile offensive players in the league, allowing him to take advantage of the many varied opportunities next to Luka in the Mavs flow offense. let’s look at his case as an elite low-usage scorer:

AT THE RIM

Seth shoots 72% at the rim (82 percentile), which is considered elite for a guard. He is great at abusing mismatches brought by the mavs offense and creating his own shots. He’s in the 90th percentile in efficiency scoring off drives and the 75th percentile scoring in PnR. He has a lot of skill controlling the big man on the inside, having the ability to freeze the big at the rim by feinting an attack, only to hit a short fade or hit him with a deadly floater.

IN THE MIDRANGE

Seth is 1st in the league in midrange fg% (minimum 50 attempts) at 57% on above average volume. He has one of the most accurate middy floaters in the league, and he is deadly on long 2s, shooting 56% from 16ft-3p, good for 3rd in the league. To put it simply, he’s the best low-usage midrange player in the NBA

FROM 3

I know I don’t have to tell anyone this, but Seth is an all-time great shooter. He is 2nd all-time in career 3p% 44.3% and 2nd this season in 3p% at 45.3%. He is always ready to pull the trigger, averaging 7.1 3p attempts per 36, and his movement off ball, as well as the defense Luka draws, creates plenty of opportunity.

After reading about his incredible efficiency on every part of the floor, it may not surprise you that, if he had enough minutes to qualify, Seth would be 11th all-time in career ts%, right behind Reggie Miller

17ppg on 10FGA per game.

Sure his % may revert to average but 15-18ppg should be in play.
