When Zumoff ask Alaa who is a good comparison for Paul Reed during the last game against the Magic, he said Kurt Thomas?

Do you see that similarity at all?

Im like.. “do i know Paul Reed?”

The comp is Pascal Siakam. He's not a center. Guys!

It might just be youth, but Paul is just so much more dynamic than I recall Kurt Thomas ever being.
Please allow me to introduce myself I'm a man of wealth and taste.

I also see that.

Im just surprised with the Kurt Thomas comparison.
I dont see any of that similarities at all.

Maybe he’s confusing Kurt Thomas and Tim Thomas.

Tim Thomas makes a better case IMO

Siakam is a pretty advanced ball handler for his size. I don’t see that from Reed. He might get there, but I’d say it’s unlikely.

This going to sound a bit nuts, but I actually see a lot of Rodman. High energy, great hands, quick feet, and surprising passing feel. He’s not the same rebounder and he seems like a better shooter, but the way he plays seems similar to me.

The Ringer had Taj Gibson pre draft... that seems closer than some of these higher profile names. He was much more of an athlete when he was younger, could play either 4 or 5.

They also had Paul Millsap but that seems like a super best case scenario.

He’s a slightly different kind of player than Chris Boucher but that’s another guy that went from not highly regarded to G League MVP and is now a viable role player.

Christian Wood with a higher motor and a more questionable jumper. Both are hybrid 4/5s that can put the ball on the floor some, stretch the floor some, and potentially defend in space. Both were fringe NBA projects that came through Philadelphia. Both should have been drafted higher. Both dominated the G League.

I can see the Paul Milsap comparison IMO. But surely a lot of player dev has to be done.

Pretty sure he was thinking of a third Thomas. Tyrus.

Tyrus was a lean, 6'9", athletic, steal, block, defensive rebound guy. Which is exactly what Reed was as a prospect.

I lean toward the Tyrus Thomas/Stromile Swift comp - a guy that runs around and puts up energy numbers

This guy deserves to be on the front page - he's one of the more interesting mystery boxes on the team and I would bet Morey is excited to know more about what he has here.

Reed's game can look awkward and chaotic but he's continued to outplay his competition in every environment we've seen him in. Incredible motor and we've seen flashes of upside in a lot of different areas - obviously getting his hands on the ball defensively, but also offensive footwork and pump fakes, shooting, defending in space, rim protection, even getting his own shot (as clunky as it looks at times). His biggest weakness is likely fouling too much, and that's something that will improve over time and can be tolerated in a smaller minute role.

I want to find out more about we have in him and I would not be surprised if he's in the rotation early in the season, potentially as the backup 5. The upside is a guy whose skillset might be able to stay on the floor deeper in the playoffs as other archetypes get taken off the floor by their limitations. Maybe he can even help us finally win the non-Embiid minutes.

It's all about his shot. Especially if we keep Ben, we need that versatile big who can space the floor on offense and anchor the D.
