If Houston truly didn't want to take on a 5 year deal of any kind, and just wanted picks and salary flexibility, then there was no package Philly could've offered that they would have accepted short of sending Ben to a 3rd team for more picks and expirings.

Houston didn't even want LaVerts 3 year deal. The only money they took past this season is $13M Prince which is an easy contract to move if they want, for an expiring this season or as an expiring next season. And Kurucs $2M team option for 2021. They didn't get a single player who would be considered a young long term prospect.

If they wanted Maxey and Thybulle, then that replaces 2 of the actual future firsts in theory. PHI still could have sent Ben out to a 3rd team to grab 2 firsts, an expiring contract, add more incoming value to the Sixers, and still done the pick swaps.

So Ben, Matisse, Tyrese, and 4 swaps

For Harden and some value from a 3rd team.

3rd team gets Ben for an expiring, 2 firsts and added value somewhere.

Houston gets the same salary cap relief, 4 swaps and 2 firsts, Maxey and Thybulle.

It was possible to beat that offer. It just didn't happen for some reason. Tillman not wanting to work with Daryl? Daryl not wanting Harden bad enough to trade 3 players and 4 swaps for him? Who knows? Houston wanting Oladipo as the centerpiece to maybe convince him to stay and Philly not wanting to give Ben to Indy or Indy not wanting Ben?? We will never know.

That's a steep price and I'm glad we didn't match that. Sure those early picks are likely to be in the 25-30 range, but things can change quickly. Warriors went from the best roster in the league in 2018 to dead last in 2020.

Reminder, none of the three guys have contracts past 2022. If thing go south in the next 1.5 years for whatever reason, they're once again doomed for the following 5-10 years. Also, owners are apparently willing to go in severe cap hell if they do resign.

It isn't a steep price at all.

There is a better then decent chance none of those things amount to anything consequential. If the Rockets felt Simmons had the potential to be a star in the league they would have taken our offer.

They didn't.

Yeah that’s pretty much what it boils down to.

Nets picks likely to be better - But you also get Tobias

They offered Ben, Matisse and picks

nobody does

the thing is, Morey prob offered Simmons, Thybulle, some draft compensation but not much and a filler

Houston wanted the picks over Simmons, as they should, it's that simple

Ben with his upcoming contract, limits you if you want to build a winner, he is still an asset, but Houston is smart enough to think long term

Will Brooklyn be able to re-sign Harden after next year? Pretty sure they'd have to do some shuffling to free up sufficient cap.

...so you're tell me that Morey was unable to filp Simmons for better picks than Nets' ones?
Come on guys....

It's not about better ones (also who is giving you a great pick for Simmons on a max? most bad teams with that type of chance wouldn't) it's about the quantity too

One of the early Shams reports was that the Rockets weren't doing the deal without one of Simmons or Irving/Durant. So from then until now, the Rockets price towards the Nets went down, and for us continued to spike up massively.

They were never dealing with us.

Somewhat relieving since Daryl was his enabler on all of his bad narratives.

Dumas said 3 and 3 swaps.

Not that either have to be correct.

Dumas’ 3&3 is more believable IMO

Sure I said we’d be overpaying if we have to include Maxey.

But I didnt expect Nets to be sending picks till the end of time

Windhorst said it how this may be the deal with the most number of picks.

Even the PG trade which factored in the Clips trading for PG and Kawhi, didnt had this much picks involved.

Houston asking price was very very high. Its understandable because Harden has been so important to them, and hes still a borderline top 5 player.

It was a tough choice to make, but im confortable with not making the deal.It was too much of a gamble.

Still i would try to get a Lavine/Beal calibeer of player, even if it costs us Simmons.
