After watching our last game against the Hawks for the 2nd time, I think how we played defense against them in the second half could be enough. No need to resort to switching until it stops working.

We lose the game because we played too relax, kind of like the pace of the Wiz game during the first half. This lead to a number of TOs. Then Hawks was shooting the lights out in the first half while our 2nd unit looked overwhelmed when they took some strong blows and couldnt get their footing. Doc should probably inserted Tobi with that 2nd unit earlier.

Then with regards to the call against Thybulle on that push off by Young, the league looks to favor the offensive player that is pushing off when both the defender and the offensive player are on the move, not when the defensive player is stationary.

So yeah, we have a handful of guards who can defend. Stay physical on Young, harass him and just make him uncomfortable. Make him make those passes out against the outstretch arms of our guys.

Like the Wiz game where they opt to put their PF on Tobi, I think Ben again has a favorable match-up in this series and he should just keep attacking on transition against the smaller defender while Collins and Capela are glued to their man outside the paint.

I am really going to need to see Glenn tighten up the rotation. Any more all bench lineups and he’s getting the popcorn

For real though, Hill 1st off the bench followed by Thybulle and Maxey. I really don’t think they should be playing Dwight, Tobi or Ben should be the “backup C”. MAYBE Korkmaz if they need more shooting. No Shake, no Scott. If Reed or Joe are in the game, it’s a blowout.

There is so much inconsistency in those calls that you couldn't possibly determine what the league's stance is on that. The league might indeed have a stance on that, but it certainly isn't being implemented in a consistent manner.

What the stance should be in my opinion is that the foul goes against the player who initiates the contact. If it's indeed a non-contact sport, then the call should go against the player who initiates the contact, regardless of who is moving and where. The defensive player should be allowed to "own" his space on the floor without being contacted.

Otherwise on-ball defense is essentially meaningless -- you have to "get out of the way" of the offensive player and essentially allow him a path to the basket when you're playing on-ball defense with movement involved. This is one reason why these teams with dribble penetrators are dominating the league right now. The rules prevent anybody from playing effective defense against them.

You can’t win if your team can’t run the pick and roll.

Because the league and the game have both designed to make the PnR as the most effective offensive action.

The only way to take it out is to switch the PnR and turn it into Isolation. Then if it’s a mismatch, then turn that isolation into more of a zone defense.

Yep, PnR centric offense with 3 players stetching the floor has revolutionized modern basketball but we have decided we dont need to run it because we have Bren freaking Simmons who cant even hit his free throws.

Given Ben needs Biid and given Ben can’t pair with D12, we need to have Tobi playing with the 2nd unit. The mistake IMO was playing an entirely 5 man unit without even one of Tobi, Ben or Biid.

Right now, I dont see a role for Milton. He looks so bad out there. Something’s wrong with him. Mentally.

The ball just didnt went in, but Maxey did well with those drives and taking those shots. He should reset mentally and do it over again.

Ben looked good playing that roll man role similar to how Draymond plays with the GSW. Specially when we play small ball.

We would need either Maxey or Seth to run it with Ben.

The problem there is you turn our best player into a role player like Brook Lopez.

Also neither Maxey or Seth are good enough at running the PnR if you want to compete for a championship, but its hard to get better players because you are already capped out by our star players, that dont really fit together into that playstyle.

True but that’s the best way you can maximize the talent on our team that lacks top tier talent with the top players on our team.

There will be possessions when Biid spaces the floor, but that wont be always. And there are times its better than continually force feeding Biid. There are times having Ben as a roll man gets Biid easy baskets with Biid’s man having to help on Ben.

Biid needs help. And the only way for that is you can put Ben and Tobi on positions that they can have the advantage to score because without it, they’re not THAT good to help us in scoring.

Hawks series and Capela’s pogo stick level of catching lobs also exposes Biid’s decline in his athleticism with playing defense that we’ve seen over the last couple of seasons.

Not that im complaining much with it for he’s still a good defensive player and is on another level on defense.

Wow, the Clippers really choked this one away. I hope this series goes to 7.

George and Kawhi are not a good fit without a really good point guard. Neither one distributes the ball and get the others involve.

It’s just a heavy volume of bring down the ball, someone sets a screen then pulling up for a jumper.

That's how you win in 2020's. An elite scorer and playmaker running PnR with 3 shooters spacing the floor.

With todays rules(mostly handchecking) and players shooting ability, that play is nearly unguardable.

We have players like Shake or Maxey who maybe could be our Jordan Clarkson, but we don't have a Donovan Mitchell.

Actually Clipps have a favorable match-up against the Jazz.

Jazz have one of the worst wing defense. Remember how Tobi carried us on offense in OT against them?

The Clips just they need a big who can pull Gobert away from paint, like Ibaka.

Both George and Leonard have 24%+ assist percentages. I don't think ball movement is the issue. I think it's more a leadership perspective. Both George and Leonard are beta weirdos, personality-wise.

Jo never had that ability. Even in his rookie season he was great with chase down block, but generally lobs are not plays he would contest.

I do have to wonder how we would look if we hadn't traded Bridges for basically nothing.

Course we can always look at the Fultz thing really took automatic real ring contenders for a decade out of our equation.

Least we didn't waste as many resources as the Celtics, but it can still give heartburn.

We definitely blew that trade, but at the end of the day, I still don’t think Bridges is that much of a difference maker. He’s a younger, somewhat better version of Danny Green.

Giving up a really good starting level 3+D wing (Bridges) for five years is silly from us. Even at his floor is better than Thybulle’s (Bench 3+D, Thybulle has the D but not the three and won’t be anywhere near the shooter Bridges is). The double down and getting a lesser skilled version made no sense. Made no sense then and makes no sense now. Aiming for Shai makes complete sense but the front office hasn’t made a lot of logical moves.

One is closer to his ceiling (All NBA def wing, elite shooter)

One is closer to his floor (Bench All NBA Def wing but with severe offensive limitations ALA Roberson).
