Welcome Filip Petrusev

Post#1 » by Arsenal » Sat Jul 31, 2021 2:50 pm

Didn't see a thread for our new Serbian assassin, so here we go.

Saw a tweet that he's likely a stash. I don't like it.

I want to see him here w/a 4 year Hinkie special to be our backup stretch 4/5. I think he's ready for that now.

Looks like a good complement to Ben in non-Joel minutes (if Ben stays).

Time's yours.

We really need to try to sign him. He's the perfect utility for operation Ben pump and dump by the deadline.

I guess Filip wont be coming over this season since he is not included in this?

They confirmed he's playing in summer league. May just have a separate thing due to scheduling and travel. If he's playing summer league, I guess it could be a situation of roster spots. In my mind he should be primary backup to Joel. He's got professional and college experience, he has the size and rebounding, skill down low and a solid 3pt shot. He averaged 27ppg so he can definitely score the ball.

You want a stretch 4/5 off the bench to help scoring woes, this is your man. He could play next to Tobias, next to Joel, next to Bassey.

I sure hope he comes over.

I think he projects to be a worse defensive version of Kelly Olynyk. If the jumper is real, he can do some useful things. Like Bassey, he can't defend in space so he'll be a switch liability, unfortunately.

If he can make Simmons' counting stats look better he will have surely been worth the pick. Bring him over!

Filip is my guy! Pre All Star Vucevic. But seriously he should be on the list come season start. The fit is ideal off the bench.

Can pick and pop all day long. Crisp fundamentals and nothing sloppy. He’s going to offense well.

Any word on whether he'll be on the summer league roster?

As someone who's already had success in a foreign league he might have enough leverage to negotiate a much more favorable contract than the Hinkie special. That would cut a big chunk out of the exceptions we'll need to address other needs.

He apparently has a buyout option with his Serbian club. If we were to make a move that opens up roster spots we could bring him over earlier than expected.

Oddly enough, he's probably the most NBA ready of all of our draft picks.

Embiid and Drummond are going to play virtually all the C minutes. Bassey will be on a two-way contract. Reed is a swing big that can play smallball 5. I just don't see any reason to carry another big who won't get any playing time. Especially because we'd be starting the clock on his rookie deal for no reason. Keep him stashed this year.

I don't see him coming over before next season unless a move is made that depletes our 4/5 depth.

Filip has the tools to potentially fill that stretch reserve role better than Bassey and Reed so we'll see if that eventually clears a path for him to find rotation minutes.

Because he’s a stretch 4/5 to pair alongside Ben or Harris or Embiid for that matter.

Something that Bassey/Drummond/Reed cannot do.

As someone mentioned earlier Filip is the most NBA ready one we drafted easily.

Pick and Pop all day long or top of the keys threes. He does have the full gambit on offense.

Filip is one of my guys.

Look some posters here rate Reed. He has a long long way to go, he’s a classic tweener and will be overtaken by Niang for obvious reasons (shooting).

I like Filip! It is interesting that he spent a year prior to the draft in a Serbian club Mega led by Misko Raznatovic. Mega has given us quite a few NBA players, among them Jokic and Zubac, but also some that were drafted by the Sixers: TLC, Dangubic, Micic. Filip has a much higher upside than these three guys though and is a steal in my opinion.

Most impressive thing about his debut was the fact that he flashed real rim protection ability. He was a bully on the block and moves his feet really well.

Petrusev got his second start of the season today in Euroleague. He was somewhat buried to start the season behind Bryant Dunston and former five day Sixer Tibor Pleiss. Dunston has been out though and Petrusev is getting more opportunity and has been solid.

I expect we'll see him on our roster next season, competing for the backup center role, but likely ending up on the deep bench. Unfortunately he hasn't been shooting many 3s, but he's 83% (20/24) from the line across Euroleague and domestic play, so I still think he can get to that point in the future.

I'm not expecting a ton out of him but maybe he ends up as a possible bench PnR partner with Maxey at some point.

Here are some highlights from today. You'll also see former future Sixer and 20-21 Euroleague MVP Vasilije Micic (drafted by Hinkie in the late 2nd in 2014) - unfortunately we traded his rights in the Danny Green deal but he would have been an interesting piece to add to the puzzle if he's ever willing to come over.

jonjames is a signature bet welcher.

He’d suck here because we don’t have a pnr operator unless the Korkmaz/Filip connect comes to fruition.

Maxey has a long while before he’s an average pnr operator.

Filip 4 lyf!
