That’s pretty surprising. By all accounts, Scotty Rego has been an institution. That’s lousy PR to save a couple of bucks.

Rego’s been here 36 years, so he had outlasted a number of regime changes.

Not a big deal for fans or for the on court product, but it just seems like an avoidable fail.

Did they announce any new hirings? Or is this not anything to do with Morey and instead just Harris cutting costs?

They also apparently fired the GM of the Blue Coats. After they went to the finals.

What does a G-League GM do?

I'd imagine that most personnel decisions are dictated by the parent club, so if they also canned the strength coach perhaps they are making some philosophical changes to the way the team was being run on a day-to-day basis rather than based on a W-L record.

Process rather than results - not surprising if they are taking an analytical turn. Would also explain making changes in the scouting department, often done by heavy analytics organizations across sports.

Morey got here later in the game last offseason, watched how things were being done, and now that they are in a new league year and before training camp they make changes.

Yeah, Pompey framed it as cost cutting, but I’d be interested to know if Morey, as head of basketball operations, has other ideas for those positions.

The GM of the blue coats fills out the roster, but several of the players, Paul Reed, Joe, for stints, two way contract guys, etc, are dictated by the parent club management.

It will be interesting if more information comes out regarding the follow up to these moves that will possibly reveal their intentions.

A team source confirmed that some of the positions affected in this round of staff changes will be filled or replaced, so you can expect to see the Sixers making some new hires.

Doesn't appear to be a Josh Harris, cost-saving move.

Roster has a payroll well north of $100 million

These cuts would be lucky to amount to 2% of that figure

Sucks that people lost their jobs but, Rego aside, it just seems like normal turnover that happens with a regime change. Pompey being lazy with his reporting per usual, hope he got a lunch out of it.
