Wells Fargo Center / Club Box

Hello everyone,

me and my boss have the opportunity to watch the 76ers vs Magics in November in the Wells Fargo Center. We are there on a business trip and coming from Europe.

We were checking for tickets on Stubhub and surprised tickets for a Club Box are quite cheap compared to other seats. What is the deal with those boxes? Anyone some advice? If this is the wrong forum please move, and I hope it is ok to post regarding this matter at all. Sorry, my English is limited, hope I made no mistakes and it's understandable :)

Thx in advance and regards from Germany!

Hi,

The club box seats are between the first and second level. Kind of far away for a basketball game. I have sat in a box when someone's work has rented the entire thing, have never done it just as 2 people, not sure there will be any free stuff, probably more private though.

Your English is great btw.

The last time I was in the Club Box seats was during the Flyers 2005 season... I had just ran into an old friend - we were basically brothers growing up, sort of 'broke up' during college, and I stumbled into him one morning at a convenience store, we were both buying coffee for the drive to work. He was very enthusiastic to see me and started calling and texting often. He tried to tie me down with what I was doing this weekend... "Want to go out Friday night" ... and I sort of put him off, "Oh, can't, I have to watch the Flyers game..." (We had finally got Peter Forsberg!!!)

Next day he sends me a picture of a print-out from some ticket website where he got two Club Box seats to the game ... I want to say they were just under $100 each, so two tickets plus tax was just under $200. (He was a rich kid.) - "You just drive , and buy food & drinks, I got the tickets..." ... What could I say? No? Wasn't really an option.

His parents (who had been like my extra set of parents) insisted I drive their brand-new , decked out Lexus LX SUV because it would be safer if there was an accident. LOL, what a thing to say, but it was a sweet ride!

We got there, got directions to where we were going, I think there was an escalator to get there. The Club Box was both very nice and also a little bit "Meh..." (I guess for a non-native English speaker, that would mean "it's just okay" or "not as impressive as I thought" ... Some of the Club Boxes are private, so everyone in their has some connection - whether a business 'owns' it or some rich person, etc. This one was public - basically if you pay the money, you get in. We happened to have seats right up front... but they're really not ideal... For sporting events, I have firmly believed there are basically two schools of thought... either right up front, directly close to the action, or all the way up top. If you're close to the action, you don't see as much, but you experience the action of the game. BUT, from the very top, you get the "birds-eye view" and get to see everything. The Club Box seats are basically right in the middle of the place - halfway up / halfway down.

But you get very little for the value ... there was no free stuff or anything like that. There was a "private" bar in our Club Box - serving $10 minimum mixed-drinks and $9 beers... and if you wanted something to eat, you just went out of to one of the Concession stands... Cheesesteaks were like $21 and fries were like $7... I think after cheesesteaks, French fries, drinks for both of us, parking, etc. I spent almost as much as he did. Their website says their Club Boxes have "Some of the best sight-lines in the house" ... Maybe, I don't know. Seemed like a lot of money for little in return. I'm messing around on StubHub on a random Flyers Friday Night game and prices are all over the place- Club Box are like $200 minimum, regular-seat lower level $300+ but the upper areas like $71-$88 etc. If you can get a good deal, by all means. But it's not like it's *super* luxurious and I doubt there will be anything free (Those are LUXURY Boxes, I believe, much more expensive.)

Whereas, in the 2007-2008 season, the Flyers had an All-you-can-eat Ticket special... for like $25+- bucks, all-you-can-eat unlimited hot dogs, popcorn, soft drinks, ice cream, nacho chips, cheese and salsa ...I got my Dad and I tickets on a weeknight (we went to Flyers games *all the time* when I was young so it was cool to be able to do it as an adult) - and we probably put down 5 Diet Cokes each, a handful of hotdogs, popcorn, nachos, etc. THAT was my idea of a good deal.

In conclusion - if you can get a good deal, then I don't see a negative. But unless you want the experience of being able to say you sat in the "Club Boxes" - I don't know how much of a premium I'd put on it. If it was free food & drinks, absolutely. But I don't think it is.

I'm going to guess the Flyers hemorrhaged money on that all-you-can-eat deal and it was retired.

Literally the last sentence I typed was "I have no idea how they didn't lose money on that All-you-can-eat-Deal" and deleted it because it was such a long post already.

I am pretty sure it was a marketing campaign to get parents to take their kids to games during the school week - very affordable tickets AND the kids got to not just eat for free, as much as they wanted. I think in the past there was ticket packages where you got like one hot dog, one soda, and maybe one something-else - which is fine, good - but I mean my Dad's favorite food is a hot dog - he probably ate at least 5 of them. I had a few and housed the nachos and popcorn. And of course you get to watch the game while you do it.

EDIT- I just looked it up and found an article from back then. It's a little confusing - it says they were offering a "limited amount of tickets for all 41 Home Games for $66 and a limited amount of tickets for all 41 home games for $31" ... I am *certain* I would have paid the $31 versus the $66.

This is right. My company has a luxury box and the food and drinks are provided there. Club seats are similar but no food and drink included and you're right that they are not the best place if you're just looking to watch the game. They are set up more for mingling and conversing with the game as a background distraction.

Edit: To be clear, when I say "my company," I don't own the company.

That sounds awesome! My Dad was a cop, and one of his coworker cops became friends with someone who was some sort of rich business person that had a box at the stadium with the minor-league Trenton Thunder played. I think the deal was, they weren't a big enough place for the stadium to stock it themselves, but it was catered from somewhere local each game and the miniature fridges were stocked full of the plastic beer bottles. Every once in a while when I was in my early 20s I'd get an invitation to watch a game and whoever the man was who "owned" it, rarely ever came. My Dad's cop buddy became like 'the captain of the Box' and would like encourage people, "HOUSE the stuff! Grab another beer! It's free! Have some more food!" and you're trying to be polite, because if the owner guy walks in and sees you stuffing yourself and guzzling beer he's gonna be like "Who's this freakin kid eatin & drinkin up all my S#!% ???" lol. But, it was pretty awesome stuff, and plentiful and free. Always decided if I hit the lottery, I'm getting one of those types of things.

Check out this big shot who definitely has his own company with a luxury box to all the games!
