Magic likely to move on from Mo Bamba this summer, according to reports.
I wonder if he would sign here for the MLE. Probably would stunt Bassey, though.

Had the same thought: The only thing separating Bamba from a guy like JJJ right now is between his ears: his defensive basketball IQ just doesn’t seem high, beyond instinctive shotblocking. If he ever figures it out, he’d be a steal, and his offense is probably already better than Jackson.

BTW, i think the key these day for NBA defensive big men (in addition to rim protection) is how high up they can play. If they can comfortably stay above the foul line, with the agility to rotate back to the rim if needed (like Bam, JJJ, Time Lord), they become this large obstacle in the middle of the court disrupting crosscourt passes along the perimeter. If they have to stay below the foul line, and therefore have to pick a side (like Lopez, Gobert, and to some extent Joel), they’re impact is more limited, even if they are awesome rim protectors.

Would anyone be shocked if LaVine ends up on the Lakers via some wonky Westbrook S&T?

Agree w/this. These top defenses usually have a long athletic PF/C type that can roam and create havoc all around the court. Saltics have 2 w/Timelord and Horford.
We should put a guy like that at PF to play w/Embiid. Try Paul Reed. Maybe sign Chris Boucher.
That's the easiest way to build a championship defense.

Not even a little bit, I fully expect someone to suddenly emerge and 'volunteer' to bail out the Lakers. I'm sure Silver is busy scouring the league searching for a possible dumping spot.

I look at this Heat and Celts squads.. they ain’t in our class in terms of talent. Its just we didn’t have the right roster to support Biid and Harden

It might just be the coaching program in place. In two years under Doc Rivers, we haven't had a top 10 offense yet. And the defense dropped from 2nd overall to 12th overall from year 1 to year 2.

It's almost like they lost a DPOY candidate between the two years.Kobblehead wrote:It might just be the coaching program in place. In two years under Doc Rivers, we haven't had a top 10 offense yet. And the defense dropped from 2nd overall to 12th overall from year 1 to year 2.

That's a crap excuse. No one player should have that much impact on a team unit's performance. Especially when you have guys like Joel Embiid, Danny Green, and Matisse Thybulle logging a lot of minutes all year.
If you drop that far, it's a systemic issue.

Nah. I'm happy they traded Ben for a guy that can score in the half court. But during the season, Sixers struggled in defense and rebounding and that's literally what he brought to the table. As much as I and everyone else wanted him gone, you still have to be honest with where there was lost value.stormi wrote:Ben prop? Very in.

Hopefully it doesn't happen, but I think you'd be in for a big surprise if Embiid was out for a majority of a season.Kobblehead wrote:That's a crap excuse. The Clippers were the 8th ranked defense without Kawhi freaking Leonard and Paul freaking George. There's no legitimate excuse for why the Sixers defense fell from 2nd to 12th just because a sad boi stopped caring about basketball. Some of that has to fall on Doc and the defensive system and approach he decided to take this season.

What stats are you looking at? I checked OPP PTS and Sixers went from 6th to 8th and Clippers went from 4th to 11th.Kobblehead wrote:The Clippers were the 8th ranked defense without Kawhi freaking Leonard and Paul freaking George. What's with the Celtics players always faking dramatic injury in the playoffs?

As long as LeGM is around, anything is possible.
No chance the Lakers miss the Playoffs in 2023. Not only will LeBron not let that happen, but the league definitely won't.

I think Kobble is referring to DRTG. I do agree with your point though. Ben was not only a great man-to-man defender, but also a rebounding machine, which is a big component of defense as it takes away scoring opportunities from the opponent.
Neither Green nor Thybulle have good rebounding rates. Niang had a pretty terrible rate too. I think shoring that up will be a huge lift in the defensive department.
