Let's be real. LeBron James deserved the Finals MVP in 2015. Classic counter will be "b-but he shot under 40%!" To be expected when your next two options are Mozgov and Henny Smith. His production was astronomical. Can't stand the guy personally, but his performance was amazing against an amazing opponent. 36, 13, and 9 over 6 games. Wow.

Perimeter players: Iso and PnR scoring
Bigs: Post and PnR scoring

Aside from exceptional 1v1 players like Biid, KD and etc.

Is perimeter players trying to score on ISO similar to bigs trying to post up? Where its much better for a players to attack a defender via PnR than 1v1?

Like for instance if you are Dennis Schroeder and you want to attack Seth’s defense, Schroeder can score more efficient by running a PnR than just straight up attacking Seth on isolation. This makes a guy like Seth’s defense not that big of a liability, also explains how we can be a top defensive team despite having Seth or JJ on defense.

This also explains why Trae Young is highly playable. Trae is not a good defender and is undersized. But if you try to beat his 1v1 defense over his PnR offense, you’ll lose that game. And if you now run a contest between your PnR and his PnR, Hawks’ has the right roster structure to defend the PnR with Capela or Collins being able to step out and switch and Capela or Collins being able to rotate to protect the rim. While on the offensive end, Trae is one of the top PnR players in the league.

Now going to the 2018 playoff series against the Celts. Celts were attacking JJ on defense. I do think we could have done a better job on defense. But the real issue was our offense, whereas if we can score more efficiently on offense, let’s say we have Brogdon in Ben’s place running the PnR we’d still be able to outscore them. For instance Biid can camp in the paint and we can let it be a battle of highly contested iso baskets and Baynes shooting 3s over Brogdon’s PnR game. The problem in that series is really more on how bad our offense was that Celts was able to read what we’re doing with all the handoffs, leading to a LOT of turnovers.

1v1 play is important. But it’s frequency should not be that much compared to PnR. And it should only be used on mismatches mostly due to PnR switches.

And today’s game, it’s really just a battle of how good your team is in pick and roll. While you try to compensate or make the gap bigger on the other things like ORebs and transition baskets off deflections.

And lastly, do we really need that ISO perimeter scorer? When we already have Embiid for ISO play?

If Maxey can make ISO scoring on small volumes but on high efficiency, wouldn’t that be enough since we’re just going to rely on this kind of scoring not as much as PnR play?

Everything you’ve said make sense over a large sample size, just like the Sixers offense has made sense over a large sample size, and we’ve been one of the best regular season teams over multiple seasons. The question still remains though if we can get good looks in crunchtime end-of-game possessions without a top tier ISO scorer.

Maxey is already a decent ISO scorer. He can get his own shot, and can also run the P&R. He's the long term answer, we just have to hope he's ready for that burden by the time the playoffs come around. If not, then next year or the year after he'll be ready.

We got Embiid for large sample size of ISO possessions and some of our guys like Maxey, Tobi and maybe Kork can do it on small sample size of ISO situations, while we have multiple guys (maxey, seth, Kork, Tobi and shake) who can run PnR which you can run on crunch time situations.

Our offense has never been this well prepared, on paper, on crunch time situations.

When it comes to offense, I really think our blueprint should be more like the Spurs and we’re building something very similar. A very reliable go to guy and collective scoring surrounding him.

Agree. We just have to be selective and not overload him, which we can given our collective scoring system. It’s not like we’re gonna give him the ball and let him the offense like he’s CP3 or Harden. He’s a lot like Tony Parker.

Sometimes its maxey, sometimes its korkmaz, sometimes its seth, sometimes its tobi, sometimes its milton, a lot of times its Biid. Key is being smart on the frequency, the match-up, the possession and on the situation

Maxey has less talent and physical gifts than Fultz and Simmons and yet he quite possibly will be more than either one of them will be to the 76ers, especially come playoff time (I predict next year). Crazy !!!

It's like when Andre Agassi broke up with Brook Shields and people were like damn she is beautiful. Then he hooked up with Steffi Graf and people were like What? And yet by all accounts they are extremely happy and thriving. (For those of you that don't know it's tennis).

Recent Nets vs Warriors:
- warriors offense is just a nightmare for a heavy switch offense like the Nets, this lead to a lot of easy baskets at the paint
- happy for Wiggins, he is perfect for this warriors offense
- Nets is better off not making the Harden trade. Having collective scoring of Dinwiddie, LaVert and Kyrie with KD as a go to guy who’s gonna bail you out is much better. This Nets offense is too predictable.
- Harden is just a bad fit. I think right now he’s better off with a lob option because he’s not getting those calls at the rim and he isnt as explosive as before leading his shots to be blocked often.
- Warriors tried some zone defense (triangle and 2) and it disrupted the Nets offense

When we dont know how the game works. We’re distracted with all the noise.

Maxey plays the right way, Ben doesn’t. But a 6’9 PG who’s compared to Magic Johnson is special. So special that most got blinded to his fatal flaws.

We’ve all know Ben and Biid don’t work, but your +/- and all the best duo in the league, best 5 man in the league BS confused you.

A year or two ago, people were distracted with “leads the league in 3pts assists”. And people who knows the game already said it’s BS, because he’s not really breaking down the halfcourt offense like a Luka, Harden or Bron (all 3 also are leaders)

Remember those “go against the trend” days, when we made it hard on ourselves to run an offense? The dreams of “violence at the rim”? Even Embiid is the anti-violence at the rim with how his scoring very perimeter oriented.

Brooke Shields value is likely more on beauty. We all want to end up with someone beautiful when we’re young and naiive. After sleeping with models or beautiful women when we’re young, we realize that marriage is really about companionship.

…just as the PG position is about scoring, shooting and pick and rolls and not about being the tallest and the fastest Pg in history :D

Cam Thomas should be playing 30+ mpg somewhere. And he probably should have went top 5, in hindsight.

If he was ready for nba minutes, he should be getting them on the Nets. They’re not a deep perimeter team.

I knew he was never getting on the court with the Nets this year. Superstars hate playing with teenagers. Especially ones that don't do the little things.

No he shouldn’t. Maybe on a crap team like Ingram at the Lakers he wasn’t even NBA ready in his rookie year but that’s when bad habits kick in. He loves to score everything else is up in the air. There’s a pecking order in the NBA and unless your lotto (I mean big men in the lotto get f all playing time if the big man starting is good see double O for example and Bamba early days at the Magic) it’ll take time to play. Nets have a championship to win

Yeah if we were the Spurs we’d need Parker, Ginobili, Duncan, Splitter, Diaw, Leonard...... that is not happening. They played a pass friendly low usage beautiful offensive system. Embiid ain’t even a better passer than Diaw ain’t going to work at all.
Diaw was a nasty passer for his size since day dot. Was doing point guard stuff in the Finals lol.

It’s volume from the inside and playmakers/shooters and space on the outside exactly like 95 Hakeem. You just need a Drexler type that’s all (that’s the hard bit).

Our by far best passer on the team doesn’t look to score or even shoot and is bogus at the line and average at finishing with touch but he’s gone.

Skills to make a grown man cry. I wonder how many on our team could playmake/pass like this. From Duncan, Parker, Ginobili, Diaw, Mills, to Splitter and Leonard. I bet ya none of them could

Heat had no chance. Sit back and enjoy the artistry. Diaw was and is an extremely great link around and an offense run through. Getting 1,2,3 passes from a set of great passing bigs that hits the spots along with all of them making space and motioning it through makes it really really hard almost impossible to defend.

Diaw is Niang if he could run an offense right the way through. Which he can’t but still love the minivan. Should be the starter come playoffs over Harris imo.

LBJ mentions it in the short clip. Every one on that Spurs team is live. Our guards/wings can get shutdown pretty easily when push comes to shove.

11:54
12:34

Absolute filth from two bench bigs. Only Ben on our team can do that. If Ben played like this, shoot when open and post up score when given a chance we’d have a chip. Also if Embiid could pass/playmake and put the ball on the floor like this same deal championship.

If our offense looks half as good as this we should be all happy.

The huge irony there’s a potential for a 3 headed monster in Embiid/Ben/Maxey but Embiid and Ben haven’t worked out the two man game between them it’s both their fault not just Ben. Seen too many games now where they don’t sync up well when it Embiid responsibility or Ben’s.

Do you know how easy a lob is when Embiid draws a double inside to Ben at the dunkers spot. Heck doesn’t have to be a lob just a short skip pass. Love Joel but he’s a bog average passer/playmaker for himself in crunch time and less so to the team.

Embiid gets tunnel vision, poor shot selection, ball stopper, long post/wrong set positions inside

Ben doesn’t score/shoot and sometimes gives up under the rim/post because Embiid/Harris are minimizing space and aren’t playmaking and going for their ‘own’ instead of the right play.

Two man Tetris it to the cup Embiid starts the action with the over the top and Ben is the big man inside... that is always the best play because our by far our best playmaker is in a very dangerous spot and has never been used enough.

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
