Thoughts?

If you want to play sports for a living and dont want to deal with the crowd, try to choose chess or swimming as sports instead.

Don’t be too sensitive. Its just an insult for the pressure and stress for common people like us who are just earning just enough to get by day to day.

Yeah, sounds like Covington just has a major problem with the city and used this as an excuse to lash out.

Because one fan patronizingly asking Simmons if he's filing a grievance in a completely calm and playful tone is obviously not egregious enough to prompt a "yeah, that's Philly in a nutshell, now you see why he wanted out."

It's idiotic to justify Simmons' exodus from the city like Bob did. And it's even dumber to pretend like it had anything to do with the fans.

And the Kyrie telling a heckler to grow up is like Russell Westbrook telling DeMarcus Cousins to control his emotions.

Idiocy all around.

I never got the whole booing thing for your own team other than for lack of effort, and I always felt that straight indifference was better than booing opponents - show them they are irrelevant instead of being important enough to boo.

Regarding players' families, any abuse is crossing the line, period. Pure low class bully mentality because you know they won't retaliate.

But as 76ciology said, as a player in any major sport, booing is part of the deal. Just put on your big boy pants and deal with it - better than that, perform well and stick it back at them.

"I'm unfazed by that ish"

Okay, dude

I'm 99% pro-booing. This team has given up on games at a remarkable rate over the past 6 years. But booing Covington was the 1%. They booed him for doing what he was asked to do. He took a ton of threes and missed a ton of threes. He shouldn't have been booed for that.

Yeah, that's another thing.

He literally just showed that he's an injustice collector by recounting specifics incidents that caused him to build up animosity for the city. And then to pretend he's unfazed? Stop lying, Bob. And leave Ish Smith out of it.

But that's my point - 'giving up on games' would be lack of effort. Fans know if a team is busting its ass but losing.

So you do get the whole booing thing for your own team.

I think all of you have hit the nail on the head.

Attacking family/friends with vulgar, disgusting comments is obviously never cool and those clowns do not represent a sizable percentage of our fanbase.

Covington using THIS example of some bro behind the bench asking if Ben will file a grievance is a weak, weak example to say "no wonder Ben wanted out". Also, I thought Ben wanted out because of Doc and Joel? Seems like it's a new pick your reason every other day. Anyway ...

Covington tried the backhanded compliment of saying we're passionate, but chiming in under that post kind of reveals his true feelings, no? He chose to paint our fanbase with a broad brush because of a back-and-forth that happens behind the bench probably nightly and also from his own anecdotal experiences from years ago.

Let's all forget the dudes who flew to Minnesota to cheer he and Saric and stayed after the game for them as well. Bro. Star players don't even get that love from other teams' fans, let alone for dudes on Robert Covington and Saric's level. Let's be real here. I don't think anyone was flying out to the frozen tundra even for Iverson from 96-06.

Philly fans were cheering Simmons and praying for Simmons at the free throw line.

I do not know what Simmons excuse will be in his lawsuit to reclaim money.

My point is, that's the vast majority of the booing. To the extent that it's not worth considering the other kind.

It's the usual self sabotaging behavior of our city.

Nothing really to extrapolate from that. There's a major section of our fan base that has a poisoned brain where they think it's cool to be as **** as possible to keep up with that persona.

Love the team and the city, but it is what it is at this point.

I'm guessing Covington mostly heard boos when he'd go cold from deep. I might agree, in that case, it's tough to boo a cold shooter. Hearing boos definitely isn't going to get you in a groove.

If you’re a pro athlete and can’t perform because people are booing at you - that is really pathetic. It just shows how mentally weak you are.

I'm not defending Covington here. He's been too inconsistent with his arguments to justify anything he's been saying. Just was trying to think of what his reasoning was bringing up booing, because I don't remember a ton of booing going his way.

But also to note, I don't think anyone in this thread would be able to hit a wide-open shot in an NBA game with thousands of people letting them know how bad they've been.

Covington took a lot of undeserved **** while he was here because of the streaky nature of shooting.

It is what it is.

So I guess we can count him out coming back on the tMLE.
