The Furkan Korkmaz Appreciation Thread
It was fun while it lasted, well nah, not really. Kept waiting for him to get over the hump to be a serviceable NBA player, but instead the hump got over on him. 1-7 from 3pt in his final audition-yikes.
Hey Furk, Doc wants to see you in his office, and bring your playbook.

Re: The Furkan Korkmaz Appreciation Thread
This roster needs a violent culling, starting from the head coach and then making its way through a starter or two and then several of the rotation players.

Re: The Furkan Korkmaz Appreciation Thread
He's been a total disaster this year. But we're stuck w/his deal for 2 more years.
Better re-learn how to shoot in the offseason or this contract will be his last.
Him and his boy Matisse better lock themselves in the gym taking 1000 shots a day.

It actually did miraculously somehow work for Shake. He's gotten himself back to the caliber of shooter he was two years ago after he mysteriously Fultz'd.

Im no Furkan fan but in his defense Doc totally went away from him and killed his confidence imo. Morey was nuts to give him a two year contract though.

Furk was shooting this team into the ground. His leash was more than long enough. He even got a decent amount of run at backup point and was just horrid besides the one or two times per game where he'd take the ball all the way to the cup and do a low swing pass to Drummond for a flush. Not sure if wrist injury, but at his size where he's already giving you nothing on the defensive end, if he isn't shooting well on high volume he's a huge on court negative.
I still hope Isaiah Joe can figure out how to knock down shots when it matters because although he can't dribble for anything, he's not a bad defender even with that slender frame. He has two way potential and elite shooting upside.

Re: The Furkan Korkmaz Appreciation Thread
Glenn gave him more than enough opportunities this year and he failed. So he's done barring injury. I think the rest of his game has improved nicely, but becoming a total zero from 3 makes the rest of his game meaningless.
However, I think there's a good chance he bounces back next year.

I don't have a lot of hope, but there's at least a chance that Furk could regain his stroke, but Matisse is what he is. He needs to find another way to contribute offensively, because it isn't going to be as a C&S guy.

You can't be serious. If anything, Doc's stubbornness kept him in the lineup far longer than any other Coach would have.

While i'm not a huge fan of Kork, he can be an average defender, and he can get hot and shoot unconscious for a couple games stretches.
I have no problem moving him, or keeping him on the bench for stretches of the RS (or even playoofs) when our guys are injured or ice cold.

Korkmaz is going to shoot us into a game in the playoffs at some point.

I don't disagree, but I keep waiting to see any sign he might snap out of this shooting funk. Starting to believe it won't happen, but we sure could use a spark from him.

Re: The Furkan Korkmaz Appreciation Thread
I don't get why people are criticizing the contract, team is absolutely capped and basically created low risk, high reward contract that can be used as a money filler for Kork in case we trade a guy like mattise.
I absolutely expect him to get trade next season and he got a bit of money in the process

Uh...I like Kork, but I think my expectations were too high for him. I was hoping he'd at the very least be Duncan Robinson. He's still only 24 years old so it's not as if he's maxed out completely as a player. He's just never going to be much more than a serviceable reserve that can score points at times for you. Very streaky shooter and not much of a defender, but I've always liked him as a spark plug type of player. Since he's been way off from three all year long, I don't think he's worthy of playoff minutes.

I agree with this. He's created a pretty solid case that he can shoot over the years. It's fair to say his last half season is not exhibiting his shooting true talent. That probably means he won't be useful the rest of the season but he should be back in the rotation next year.

Dude the bolded statement is WILD. Duncan Robinson is a legitimate top 5 three point shooter and one of the best role players in the NBA. Korkmaz's ceiling was lower than that, much less his floor. Korkmaz never came anywhere close to that level of shooting volume or efficiency as a player or prospect. Robinson was 86% from the FT line in both the NBA and college and Korkmaz is ~76%.

Has he? I mean Korkmaz is certainly better than he's been this year but for his career he's 35.5% from three and 77% from the line. That's the efficiency you'd expect from a 3 and D player that's putting in work on both sides of the ball, not from a one way sharpshooter.
His most interesting progression for me this year was his playmaking ability at the start of the year, but I doubt there's much of a future there because I don't see him being a guy that any playoff team is going to be giving the ball to.
Korkmaz' future is likely a 9th to 12th man that eats up regular season minutes, but ultimately at this point I think both Isaiah Joe and Paul Reed are going to be giving you better postseason minutes, at least in the future.
