So if Harden is signed for 3 years that would be
22-23 Embiid 28, Maxey 22
23-24 Embiid 29, Maxey 23
24-25 Embiid 30, Maxey 24
In 25-26 we will have Embiid still in his prime 31. Maxey entering his prime at 25 and room to sign another star preferably in their prime between 25 and 30 years of age. I have to say our near future is still looking good.
Now my question, let's say Harden retires in 3 years, which star will be a great fit with am aging 31 year old Embiid and 25 year old Maxey? In my opinion someone between the ages of 25 and 30.

Imo players like Anunoby, Jaylen Brown, Wiggins or Devin Booker would be perfect.

Re: In 3 years
I’d consider trading Embiid in 3 years, after he gives us a championship. That will make it easier.
Other than that, it’s hard to say.
3 years ago, i wouldnt expect us to be with Harden. And if I did, I never expect us to just be a second round exit team with Harden and Embiid.

I think it's very possible for Embiid to have a Duncan like ending to his career. We should tell him to forget about mvp and load manage and go for fmvps. He might even take a payout at the end of his career. We would need to keep Maxey and get a 2 way wing at We would be able to compete throughout Embiids career.

Duncan averaged 15 10 and 2 blks at age 37! Embiid can have another 10 great years if we take the offensive load off his shoulders

In theory Embiid should have a lot left. He has such a small amount of miles on his body relative to age. But it remains to be seen.

Re: In 3 years
I think Harden wont do that - this is basically just a 2 year extension on his current.
Add another year to make it a proper 3 year extension is more believable. (still alot better than a 4 or 5 year extension)
The actual best thing about 3 years from now is both Doc and Morey's contracts have finally ended.

If thats the plan then we should start talking about how much paycut he has to take. Because you know getting a very good center is super easy nowadays.. we could easily get Kessler at the 23rd pick. Possibly even get Capela or Gobert for cheap. We got Drummond last season with the minimum. We got a couple of lotto caliber bigs with Reed and Bassey
Hell.. if this is 2K, the right move would be trading Embiid for someone like Kawhi, Durant or George.
Then compete witb
Harden
Maxey
Kawhi
Tobi
Bassey/Drummond with MLE
Im also not so confident with a Maxey lead offense, he’s neither a good ISO or PnR player that you can let him run your offense. Maxey at his current role is perfect.
A LOT of things can happen after 3 years. Just look at how our lives has changed since the pandemic began to where its at right now

One more thing to add to this that I picked up from Bodner's article on Harden extension scenarios: there's potential for a massive cap increase that summer due to the new TV deal.
As for a specific target, who knows? Things change so drastically in short periods of time with this league. It is comforting to know that there's light at the end of the tunnel if the Harden saga doesn't end how we want it to.

Re: In 3 years
If Devin Booker gives up on the Suns in the summer of 2024 and becomes a mercenary to help Embiid and Maxey, he'd be the best fit imaginable, wouldn't he? Talking about guaranteed title.

that third year we give Embiid the year off due to some injury, and tank drastically, having just traded Harden for value, we get a young star the year we tank, maybe a lanky SF who plays a big role in helping us compete with a healthy embid the next year

Not yet. Maxey is still a young player and has only played 2 years in the NBA. He still has a lot to add to his game.

Notable 2025 NBA Free Agents (30 years old or younger):
Tatum (PO, 27 yo)
Giannis (PO, 30 yo)
Ingram (UFA, 28 yo)
Mitchell (PO, 29 yo)
Anunoby (UFA, 28 yo)
J Murray (UFA, 28 yo)
Lonzo (UFA, 28 yo)
Simmons lol (UFA, 29 yo)
Ranked by personal preference. I love that we're having this discussion. There's a big part of me that wants to keep our pick this year to continue to build for a post-Harden life. Obviously, some of these guys will sign extensions early and no longer be available. If we sign Maxey to the right type of extension, we could be in play for a max FA that summer. The show goes on...

Re: In 3 years
Default would be we going into the warriors route. Tank for two years. Get a couple of lottery picks, get guys like Poole and Wiggins in the process. Embiid slides into being someone like Draymond.
If you’re lucky then you turn it around quickly and get a top tier star as soon as Harden and Sixers part ways.

And we'll be sure to pick a Markelle Fultz instead of a Bam, Fox, Mitchell or Tatum

Re: In 3 years
In three years we would have been in a helluva better place with Haliburton over Harden. Damn it all to heck.
If we can't move Tobi this year or add another major player now, do we try for two years of Harden and rebuild after two years around Embiid and Maxey while Maxey still has a small cap hold and our other two big salaries are either gone or eligible for S&T deals?

Gonna be a cold water guy. I think if Morey doesn't get this sh** right this year, Embiid pushes for a ticket to Miami. Not necessarily a bad thing as Riley is a master of stocking the kind of assets that he would need to sell us on doing it.

Would you prefer a reset with Chet Holmgren, Jabari Smith, cap space and replenish the picks we traded or be in a situation we’re in with a declining 32 yo Harden, a non durable Embiid, tip toeing between luxury tax and not having our picks for every other year till 2027?

I actually posited this thought with a friend. But Chet is a non-starter, he's just waiting to reach bust-status. Depending on the package, I'd consider one of 2 things.
Soft reset: Miami Heat - work out a trade or three team deal.
Full reset: one of Jabari/Banchero/Ivey + Maxey
