Anyone Else Bored?
I've found myself having a really hard time getting into the games this season. I don't know if it's the continual early playoff flameouts or because the regular season doesn't mean anything (which is a pretty related obversation) but I find myself not really caring too much whether they win or lose most games.
Anyone else feeling the same? Any ideas to get back into it?

the plan is to get as good as quickly as possible....I fully believe we could have been a borderline playoff team last year by adding young veterans....using or draft picks and cap space.....can I specifically tell you who? no.

very much so.
i think past seasons we were always waiting the big move. This team is what is.
Without Maxey we also don't have his upside to get hyped about.
Team also plays a boring brand of basketball.
So unless they have a big move to pull out of nowhere...we are all just waiting for the playoffs.
and personally since I hated everything we did in the offseason that feels like it will be a self fulfilling prophecy of sorts.

Regular season is just a gimmick it's all about who can spam more 3's and who can try less on defense.
That being said, it's always interesting to see Embiid's journey to NBA scoring leadership

I'm either getting older, or yeah...the season (s) are becoming more and more stale and boring. Regular season games these days are basically a glorified pickup games where they shoot threes. Guys are getting paid millions and they just don't seem to care about the overall product anymore. Sure, some games get competitive, but 90 percent of them are just going through the motions.
Not to sound like some old head, but I'm gonna be that guy. Back in the early 90s when I first started watching the NBA, I remember the games being a lot more competitive. Opposing player didn't seem to like each other, there wasn't a load management, guys competed. You knew who the good teams were and you definitely knew who the bad teams were.

These guys aren’t going to play lights out every game. I think there’s just too many games and the back to backs make no sense. All for revenue.

And teams had very specific identities in the '80's and '90's. The big rivalry games in the '80's, against MIL, LA, and especially BOS were games you would be locked in for on Sunday afternoons on CBS (remember those tripleheaders) during the regular season. Playoff basketball games were wars. It was awesome, all of it, and I lived, breathed, ate, and slept pro and college hoops.
I watched virtually every game last year, but have had little desire to tune in this season. For one, as Mik said, there aren't any big moves to look forward to, this team is what it is. And I can't invest emotion in a team coached by Doc Rivers any more, because while we can pretend it will be different, deep down we all know this is going no further than the second round again, if that.

1990 for me. That's when I started watching. You're absolutely right about teams playing with an identity.
Golden State had Run TMC, Lakers were still showtime but they were fading fast, Phoenix had a crazy shooting team led by Kevin Johnson, Detroit Bad Boys, the Knicks were straight up bullies, Portland with Drexel, Houston with Hakeem, Utah had Stockton and Malone, Reggie Miller was up and coming, Dominique Wilkins, Boston was still decent enough to beat anyone. I remember that crazy Denver Nuggets team with Michael Adams that wasn't very good, but it was all offense. Teams that played them scored like 150 ppg against them. Then you had MJ who was just about to take over the world. Definitely a great era for sure. I literally would watch any and every game that came on. Knew all the teams, their entire rosters, Ernie Johnson had hair, Craig Sager, Fred Hickman, Stuart Scott ALL gone now, Hubie Brown would announce games, the FKIN all star game was an actual GAME.

This + a lot of demoralizing around knowing the team isn't looking like a championship team and the regular season is not important anymore.

I’m pretty pumped about this season actually. For one, you can feel the vibes are good around the team- guys like each other, and are playing for each other. Two, they’re playing noticeably better month by month, as players are getting healthy and starting to figure things out. Who know where it all ends, but the team’s ceiling is high, and I’m enjoying the trajectory.

After they finished with the #1 and blew it in the playoffs, it's hard to care that much about the regular season like you said. Still optimistic that they can finally get over the hump in the playoffs but not sure what can make things more exciting until then.

Re: Anyone Else Bored?
I've been bored of the Sixers for years now. I haven't watched a game since the 3rd or so game of the season. I stopped watching after they traded Butler, then Harden's first game with the Sixers was the first game I watched in a couple years. But what I realized during my time away from the Sixers(and NBA in general) and was reinforced last year when I started watching some games again is I just don't really like the NBA all that much anymore. Not enough to dedicate 2.5 hours a night watching it, anyway.
6pm-11pm are my main free time hours. Of all the things I can do during that time or want to do during that time, there are just too many things I'd rather spend my time on than watching NBA basketball. I've fallen out of love with it over the years for a variety of reasons. For me to really spend any significant free time watching the Sixers these days before the playoffs, they're going to have to have a dynastic level team. Otherwise, if I have nothing else to do, I'll check out a game, but mainly I'm keeping tabs from afar and then I'll tune in during the playoffs.

I've enjoyed this season, if it causes the more annoying people to go away even better imo (hope the nice people stay)

This roster is just about out of trade bullets; and besides Maxey, all out of upside.
Morey seems uninspired, and Glenn seems delusional.
This team, right now as is; not as good as Milwaukee, Boston, or Cleveland. And that's just the East.
There’s no point to care right now, really. We’re all just kind of waiting around, watching out of the corner of our eye to see if they will do anything to shake it up.

Re: Anyone Else Bored?
I’m having a ton of fun this season. Some great Maxey games, Melton is super entertaining, Embiid has been great lately, Harden has showed flashes, Tobias is playing awesome, PJ is an interesting personality, and we even got a Shake Milton resurrection.
I’m completely disinvested from the idea of this being a championship team. Can’t do it emotionally and I don’t think they’re good enough. But this is probably the most fun I’ve had in years.

Increasing amount of players doing load management while the refs dont allow much physicality in the reg season (completely different from playoffs) making regular season not enjoyable
While there are two views on regular season for stars. A series of games to help them achieve their personal awards or a series of games before the games they want to be winning, the playoffs

We're on season 6 of this TV show and it's getting kind of stale. They switched around the cast a little bit, but it's still the same show at it's core, and the finale disappoints every year. They've already pulled out all the stops, so either they finally stick the landing or they don't. The build up no longer matters.

This. And having arguably the biggest playoff collapse artist as our head coach doesn't help matters.youngcrev wrote:We're on season 6 of this TV show and it's getting kind of stale. I suspect that's less boredom and more learned helplessness. When you anticipate the same painful outcome you've experienced previously and nothing is likely to occur to change that, the experience is one of learned helplessness. That engenders apathy and withdrawal.

Me too. Our team is kinda Maxed out, like people already said. Im kinda only following Maxey nowadays, hoping he can keep improving( i root for him, hes too likeable). Now that hes Hurt, im not finding the motivation to watch the games.
Our team is pretty flawed, we wont get past the 2 round( our only chance is if Maxey becomes a star).
Im a little disapointed with harden too, i thought he would be more impactful. Hes playing pretty good, but hes not the same scorer he was, i thought his impact would be bigger. Finally, regular season is too long and meaningless.
