Josh Harris buys Commanders

Post#1 » by HardenToSixers » Thu Apr 13, 2023 5:48 pm

Feel like this has to be discussed right?

I personally am not as angry as I believe many will be, but I am not a huge fan at all.

Why would anyone care unless it affected the way the Sixers are run?

He's a rich guy who likes toys, more power to him. My only issue with Harris was letting Silver destroy the Process, but since then he's shown he's willing to spend the money to build a winner, even though his hires for the most part haven't been stellar.

I’m just surprised that Bezos didn’t outbid him. I assume that he’s going to want a major sports team eventually & this was a golden opportunity to rebuild a premier franchise from the ground up.

because he bought a franchise that is one of the top 3 rivals to the biggest team in town? probably one of the first times this has ever happened.

I would understand why people who are not from Philly area or Eagles fans wouldn't care, however to many from the city this will be a big topic of conversation

It makes a lot more sense if you understand the market there. The team is ... not popular.

Isn’t that because of Dan Snyder tho? I feel like a halfway decent owner will look like a genius because they’re building up from rock bottom.

No, imo it is much more demographic than the owner. Probably would be most accurate to describe the team as Washington DC area based than actual DC based as a starting point.

Good news is he doesn't have to tank since they have already sucked for a long time.

They'll always be the Redskins to me. I've had to correct myself so many times out of sheer fear of offending someone. Either way...Good for him, I don't care. Sure Washington has been bad off and on over the years, but they're hard to dislike. The Cowboys are much more easier to hate, or the Giants for that matter. Then again, I'm a Dolphins fan that just so happened to grow up watching Randall Cunningham every Sunday.

Well, as probably the only Skins fans here, I'm not thrilled that Harris bought the team, but at this point anyone would be better than Snyder.

I'm not sure what you mean by this? Snyder is hated, which has caused many people to not care, but we're a massive franchise.

Snyder hates Bezos and reportedly wouldn't accept his bid even if it was the highest bid.

Oh c'mon. The days of local businessmen with an affiliation to a city owning pro teams are loooooong gone. Harris has absolutely no ties to Philly other than owning the Sixers - hell, he owns the Devils, who are one of the Flyers main rivals! These are billion+ dollar investments that are like toys to these people.

The world is a playground to a billionaire like Josh Harris.

Syracuse Orangemen, San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders...Between cancel culture and teams relocating, it's been a struggle for me to keep up with the names.

When did Syracuse drop the 'men'?

Harris is actually from DC.
