If Houston won't play ball, you might have to just offer Harden the whole bag and worry about it later. Won't be able to effectively retool without that TPE.

Maybe not in 2023, but we will in 2024. Morey/Nurse might have no choice but to take a reset year, and I'd be just fine with that.

If they just resign Reed, McDaniels, and extend Maxey... they will not have significant cap room in summer 2024 either. With or without Harden.

Don't extend Maxey. He'll just have an RFA cap hold for $13M next summer. Use the cap room then max him after.

Dont forget that 13M cap hold still counts against the cap even before you extend him. To free up that 13 million and use the cap space, you have to renounce him. But then you cant go over the cap to sign him back because at that point hes no longer "yours" after you renounce rights.

Except Klutch is gonna want to get paid now. And Maxey was upset coming off the bench for a month, can he handle not getting paid for a full year? There's a risk on his part he likely isn't interested in, and it could easily manifest in his play, or lack thereof.

You’re confused. Only $13M counts on the cap until he is resigned to the max. We’re not “freeing up” that $13M. We’re not renouncing him.

Klutch will be ecstatic for Maxey to get the keys if Harden leaves. More likely to get him maxed out next summer. And if they don’t like it who cares? They know this is the way we have to build a contender around Maxey.

Right. 13M against the cap is manageable. The first year salary of his new deal might be in the 35M range, so by not signing him early, we free up an extra 20M+.

Yeah faults looks so much better now. He would be a good replacement. That or get Maxey to work on his playmaking and start him at the 1

Just realized Jerami Grant is a FA. Do you guys think he would fit our team better than Tobias? Not the best shooter, but Tobias is also unreliable. Jerami is more athletic and better defender, more Nurse kind of player, but I don't know if he would fit our team better.

I'm probably alone here - but giving Maxey a max contract would make him the worst contract in the league.

He is pretty much Lou Williams - a tiny shooting guard/backup point guard, that is a liability on defense. Excels when he is the 4th best player on the team. He is a 6 man of the year type of player, not a player to build around. He is exceptionally overrated around here.

with Maxey you are betting on the continuing improvement he has shown each year so far continuing. You are also betting on those games in which he was the main guy being something to build off of. We beat some good teams this year with only Maxey...thats not something to just ignore IMO. His best games came without Biid and Harden's gravity

Lou Williams was clutch, that's about it. He did a good job on the pick and roll, which Maxey needs to develop. He's also great at getting to the line. That's the only thing he was ever better than Maxey in. Maxey, is lightning quick, amazing in transition, has great body control when driving to the rim, and is an elite shooter. He has also progressed in every season he has played in the league. His ceiling bare minimum is a 25 ppg player in the league. He also showed a lot of flashes on defence during the post season. So basically, nothing like Lou.

Right. When watching him play. You can sometimes feel he's overrated. I generally agree with 76iology on him. But his age, his quickness to go along with becoming a truly elite shooting is a big deal. Plus he's already productive and giving your 20ppg efficiently. He just needs to put a go to guy offensive package together.... Which they hoped to do by letting him run the bench.

Sure, but we don't have cap to sign him.
