Will Jaden Springer Have a Role This Season?

Post#1 » by TheExpat » Sat Jun 24, 2023 8:16 pm

So what do you think?

Is anyone excited at the possibility that Jaden Springer could break out this season?

I kinda hope Harden walks and this kid gets a chance.

I’m pretty sure he’s gonna be the backup sf. he’s a solid defender and reasonably efficient. An Doc is GONE.

"No" feels like the safe guess

IMO, they should be open to trading he or Melton - the one that's left has a role

otherwise, they're pretty redundant as far as size/skillset

Two athletic defensive combo guards with length is not redundant...

Before the coaching change, that would have been the correct answer. Now we have hope that young players might not be locked in the gulag indefinitely.

I had to give you an And 1 for "gulag".
You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

Nick Nurse? The guy that was playing the corpse of Thad Young on a team that didn't have a chance to win anything? And playing his starters a million minutes a night?

That guy wants to win. He doesn't give a **** about developing middling prospects. I don't think that will change much on a team with championship aspirations.

I think Springer is gonna need to make a hell of a first impression on Nurse to even be in consideration for minutes.

Yes it is when we have a third undersized combo guard in Maxey.

Someone needs to go and I’d prefer it to be Melton if we can get value for him.

Melton, Springer and James plays more like SFs on our team.

Springer may have a role depending on how we’d structure our team.

For a 3 guard unit, I prefer a double big line-up for that. Or atleast not a tweener at the 4. You then make it up in length while you can play a good dribble drive offense because of your quickness.

Yes, I think Springer will be in the rotation. If he's not, then it's time to move him. Looking forward to seeing what he does.

I don't care if he has an overlap with Melton tbh, specially in such an unathletic and slow team like us.

Melton is an expiring too, so the faster we can evaluate what we got on Springer the better.

Not interested in featuring guys who are 6'5", 6'4" and 6'2" as our SFs. We need bigger wings. Someone has to go.

Ultimately he's a Melton replacement, but until then he'll probably be used as an undersized forward. If we end up including Melton in a trade with Tobias Harris, then look for Springer to get his minutes.

To be clear, I'm not completely writing off the kid. I'm just not expecting anything either.

Shooting is the swing skill, and how many times have we said that about a guy and it's actually worked out? He shot 31.9% from 3 in the g league last year, so it's gonna take a lot more than an empty gym video of him to convince me he's there yet.

There is some level of opportunity here, particularly if we're getting the whiteboard lineup with Maxey-Melton-Harden all starting.

It makes little sense to speculate what the rotations will be right now. Let's see what the roster looks like in September, after FA and summer league.
