So let's just say that this new kid Jared is a Buddy replacement who is scrappy and competes defensively too. I don't hate the move for this team, considering his shooting and skills should translate quickly. Seems like a guy that can pressure full court, and really learn from like Kyle Lowry defensively and as a scorer.

Still think they should go after Klay. DDR turned down 2 years 80 million? That's wild

Can someone cook up some lineup variations for us next season without George/Butler/Lebron/Ingram/Markkanen?

If we simply just spread the cap around, what's the best looking team we can hope to achieve?

Slept the draft off.

I hate the pick even more today.

I'll leave off DeRozan since I assume you meant him as well:
Cap space + room: KCP, Pat Williams, Naji Marshall, Kelly Oubre, Nic Batum
Min: Lowry, Drummond

Maxey / McCain
KCP / Lowry
Pat Williams / Oubre
Nic Batum / Marshall
Embiid / Drummond

So... Not great

If Melton agrees to sign to a 1 yr minimum contract, will we have his full bird rights next season since he already played 3 consecutive seasons with the sixers?

I would be fine if it felt like he was the best available, but I’m annoyed he was taken over Knecht who seems better today. Guy was giving you 22 a game on good efficiency in an underrated tough SEC conference where defenses were keying in to stop him. We’re also just guessing at this point, but I would be surprised if McCain is better than Knecht next season and given embiid’s health / patience with the team, who knows if we’ll even have more than 1-2 runs left in this era.

When I look at some of these prospective lineups-- and while we can't know what's gonna happen b/w now and the fall, we know there aren't a lot of big names to be had-- and then compare them with the Knicks and Celtics, I'm somewhere between sad and sick.
NY and Boston each have at least 4 starters who are all excellent and all veterans in or near their primes.

Brunson
Bridges
OG
Randle

JRue
White
Brown
Taytum
Porzingis

Maxey
Council
Reed
Biid

Even if we're able to add some kind of star, Ingram (which seems unlikely), George (see Ingram, plus he's aging and injury-prone)....look at those NY and Boston lineups.

It's entirely possible that we're passed by another team or three and are just middle of the pack for the golden years of Embiid's prime. Guess we'll see what we'll see, but it's hard to feel good when I look around at what other teams have been building.

You think Reed and Council are going to be the third/fourth best players on the team next season?

Not the sexiest team, but it's quietly a powerhouse around Joel Embiid.

Pat Will would be a 10/10 acquisition. Youth, defending and shooting. Marshall brings wing depth. KCP brings movement shooting and defending. Oubre is a 6'7 wildcard wing that gives you a little bit of everything. Drummond a legit back-up five man. Two sublime shooters in Maxey and McCain, Maxey who I expect serious all-NBA consideration and then Lowry and Batum as quality vet experience.

Would be thrilled if Morey cooked something like this up.

I would be perfectly happy with an offseason that lands us a deep team full of high quality role players. It’d be nice to finally try a new strategy instead of essentially running back the same roster with a Tobias replacement.

It would also be nice to retain all our picks and have some tradeable contracts on the roster for once.

I believe the answer is yes. Melton has significant incentive to take a 1-year vet min here instead of a bit more elsewhere precisely for this reason. We will have full bird rights to resign him to a large deal or s&t him to another team for a large deal next summer, assuming he returns to form.

I'd like to swoop Simone Fontecchio if we're going with the depth plan. Get him, KCP, Naji Marshall, and Kyle Anderson. Then resign Batum with the remaining cap, Oubre via RE, and Lowry + Saric + Martin for vet min.

New lineup:

PG Maxey | Lowry | McCain
SG KCP | Marshall | Council
SF Fontecchio | Oubre | Martin
PF Anderson | Batum | Saric
CE Embiid | Reed | ??

Long, deep, and athletic team with shooting, plus good secondary playmakers and connectors throughout the lineup. I think they could go far.

See how things go and we can always package some of these guys for a 3rd star later if needed.

The size could eventually be an issue, but there doesn't appear to be too many holes in his game. High character, hard worker, brings some intangibles, and breathes fire from outside.

Can't hate on the pick too much at 16.

I can’t believe we actually drafted a guy I wanted.
