This is great still need a PF, and fill out the roster. I’m sure he’ll get it done but we do not have a lot of money left and there are not many PF out there

For once I’m curious about Stephen A Knick’s first take this morning. Maybe he takes the day off. (Though when he covered the team for the Inq, he was really good about responding to e-mails with cogent, cool headed remarks.)

Re: Daryl Morey apology / appreciation thread
So many people were wringing their hands and ready to write his obituary before free agency had even started.
"I don’t wanna be Jordan, I don’t wanna be Magic, I don’t wanna be Bird or Isiah. I don’t wanna be any of those guys. When my career’s over, I''m gonna look in the mirror and say I did it my way.”- Allen Iverson

Re: Daryl Morey apology / appreciation thread
I came here to start the same thread. So let me say this. Do I think the 76ers are the best in the East? Nope Boston still holds that mantel, but Morey has given the 76ers a fighting chance. And that's all you can ask for. Not only does he give the 76ers a fighting chance but he did not deplete the asset base to do it. AND he got a player that can be the 3rd option. I am not a great PG fan, but as a third option he should be good/great.
Basically Morey traded a disgruntled Simmons for Harden.
Then he traded a disgruntled Harden to the clippers for first round pIcks and pick swaps.
Then the following season he fills the void left by Harden with the Clippers second best player, who he wants to play 3rd fiddle here. All the while giving his star, Joel, the player he wants and building up the 76ers war chest.
Awesome Job Morey Awesome job.

You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

Re: Daryl Morey apology / appreciation thread
Turning Simmons and two picks into George and two picks (and possibly still KJM too) is pretty good work all things considered.
He is not done this offseason though. And make no mistake, he still hasn't done anything outside his wheelhouse (sign his former players and max contract stars).

Re: Daryl Morey apology / appreciation thread
Need to make a couple more minor moves to fill out the roster but Daryl has done his job exceptionally this summer. He did his part now it’s up to Nurse & the players to do theirs.

No gloating, but the attacks and 'washed' garbage from some was ridiculously over the top. He came into a situation that everyone had concluded was a dead end, and turned it into a team that came a quarter away from the ECF, then fired the mistake of a coach and brought in one of the best in the game, and had the patience to turn the Harden situation into the first real assets and cap space we have had here in eons, setting us up for this off season.
Maybe he didn't do anything out of his wheelhouse, but that was the play he saw as the best way to compete ASAP, and he managed it without emptying the cupboard. I hope that he is able to keep some draft capital for the deadline, when we'll have a much better idea what this team is and what we need, and more opportunities arise.

Re: Daryl Morey apology / appreciation thread
Feel like this thread has been started roughly a year early. Philly teams have been paper champions too many times. Let's see it come together first.

No one's crowning them yet, but he succeeded in giving us a ray of hope, and in the off season that's a great thing to have as a fan.
Still a lot of work to do to get this group to championship contenders status.

It was also a nice piece of business considering our situation last year. Approaching this as title or bust might work for you all but I'm just happy it's not depressing half-rebuild for another year or two, and that I get to care about bball in May and June another year. And that Brian Colangelo and Brett Brown aren't calling any shots.
I'm critical of the always-signing-big-names strategy, though, and a lot's going to depend on nailing the last couple of medium-small moves we have.

Not that anyone would necessarily pay attention to my posts, but at no time have I ever been "title or bust". I was more than willing to walk away if Morey had sold our soul to the devil and brought the repulsive James here.
My ideal plan was for a more patient approach and building a deeper and hopefully younger team that would last beyond a couple of years, but at least in keeping the rookies and Council (for now, anyway) there is a shot of youth moving forward.

(I was talking about the post you quoted, which was grumbling that we're still just paper champions and not that likely to win a title with PG.)

Got to admire a leader with a plan, and can execute it. Whether it's the right one is up for debate by any detractors.
But this is setup to be a well constructed Big 3. pg/forward/center that can all shoot off the ball and playmake for others. 2 are great defenders and the youngster competes. Top level backup center and versatile two way wing in Oubre.
Well done Daryl

I never understood the criticism he got. He inherited a roster that had plenty flaws and unforeseen dilemmas and still put us in a position to compete.
