Welcome Guerschon Yabusele
Can’t believe dude signed for minimum he has a $2.5 million buyout lol. He’s basically working unpaid this year. Beignet Wallace is gonna bring the ball physicality we need.

Its all about next years contract. If he shows he can be a legit rotation pf he probably can get 3x/4x his salary next year when th an MLE (even if not on the Sixers). If it doesn't work out he lost some money, but can go back to Europe. So taking a chance for a shot at maybe $30m+ guaranteed if it works out.

Yo I love that we went out and got this dude after he showed out in the Olympics.
Low expectations, but I'm hoping he can be at least as good as Grant Williams was for the Celtics.

Doesn't even need to make close to the MLE for this to work out for him, most euro salaries for good teams are like $1-1.5m. If he gets a single 2/10 contract he'll make a ton more than staying there (even though I know taxes etc work differently there). And yeah like you said he's probably thinking there's a non-zero chance he can snag a 2/30 or 3/40 and make some serious generational wealth in one quick swoop.

Be cool but I think he also brings a different thing than Grant Williams. Both can hit spot ups and post up a little and have strong frames for iso defense, but Yabusele's more mobile and can attack with his dribble and also cuts and runs a lot off ball. I always think of Williams as a weirdly vertical, kind of stationary player, sets screens well and defends the post well and catches and shoots from a standstill. Yabu's nickname is the Dancing Bear, and Williams seems like his should be something like the Moving Statue.
But yeah if Yabusele could do the basic things as well as Williams did on BOS, that'd be sick for us.

Good signing. I'm sure that Embiid had a hand in recruiting him to the Sixers. Hopefully he sees some significant minutes. Glad Morey took a chance on him rather than sign Tucker or Morris.

Re: Welcome Guerschon Yabusele
Good long video of his highlights from last year's euro league session, so it's all against good and experienced/veteran teams. (Can't find highlights from his Olympic run for some reason though.)
Also here are some encouraging 3pt shooting stats from the last 4 years, borrowed from euroleague guy on the GB (who did note pretty low volume + shorter FIBA line):
2024 - 46.1% (35/76 3FG)
2023 - 42.1% (32/76 3FG)
2022 - 40.2% (53/132 3FG)
2021 - 38.4% (43/112 3FG)

Absolutely love this signing after that Olympic run. Great move to get a PF with legit upside instead of settling for some vet who would never sniff the court in a big game. Nice little cherry on top that he will play extra hard against the Celtics.

Really nice signing, better chance to contribute at his age and athletic profile plus a position of need. Love capping the Summer off this way.

Really surprised by this because of the buyout, but I love the signing.

I was impressed with him after watching the Canada vs. France game, where he really proved he belongs. He'll be valuable when facing physical power forwards like Giannis. We might be getting a younger version of PJ Tucker.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

There were only 6 midrange shots in that whole 14 minute video. He (or his coach) seem to have studied analytics pretty hard, because almost every shot in that video is either a 3 pointer or a post move / attacking the rim.

Re: Welcome Guerschon Yabusele
I like it. Nothing to lose. A bunch to gain, if he can hit corner 3's and defend enough to stay on the court.
If he can make himself playable, it gives them more options at the trade deadline. The problem with KJ Martin being the only obvious salary filler for a major trade, is that he was also the only possible PF on the roster. If Gershon shows himself playable, maybe a KJ Martin trade doesn't have to be limited to bringing back a PF in return.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

Them Euro teams play disciplined, man. It's fun to watch.
He hit some midrangers in the Olympics if I remember right. Looked pretty smooth on em.

Re: Welcome Guerschon Yabusele
Great signing. Thought he was the best player on France aside from Wemby.
Could end up being a great replacement for Tobi, bringing more physicality and attacking the rim. Going to be fun to watch. Wouldn’t be shocked if he ended up getting 20+ mpg by December/January.

Morey went into the negotiations with Yabusele and said. I can turn that Silver into Gold give me a year and you won't regret it. Trust me !

You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

Re: Welcome Guerschon Yabusele
I think part of this signing was because of his age and potential upside, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Knicks series was a major factor in wanting to sign him.
I still think the Sixers win that Knicks series if Embiid wasn't hobbled, and they got game 2 stolen from them as it was, but Yabusele played in the Olympics how the Knicks played vs the Sixers. Gritty, crashing boards, high intensity, high emotion. Playing high energy all the time. I could see Morey and Nurse looking at that series and saying we need some of that grit, and then watching the Olympics and thinking "He's exactly that type of guy."
