Dikembe Mutombo passed away today at the age of 58 from brain cancer.

Mutombo was the fourth overall pick in the 1991 NBA draft by the Denver Nuggets after a successful career at Georgetown.

Mutombo was an eight-time NBA All-Star and four-time Defensive Player of the Year. Mutombo was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015. Mutombo played for the Nuggets, Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks and Houston Rockets.

Mutombo helped lead the Nuggets to a first round upset of the No. 1 seed Seattle SuperSonics during the 1994 playoffs. Mutombo also anchored the defense for the Allen Iverson-led Sixers that reached The Finals in 2001.

Praying for his family. Such a great person too. RIP.

Just wondering after watching this Mutombo highlight, did we ever try putting Geiger or Tyrone Hill on Shaq, while letting Mutombo roam from the weak side? In hindsight, that might have been a better approach. I’d probably have run that scheme and dared Robert Horry to beat us instead.

RIP Mount Mutombo. He did so many great things after retirement. A big loss, literally and figuratively.

Loved his energy and the spirit that he brought to the game on and off the court. He will be missed.

Damn shame. Great guy.

I just remember the story back from his Georgetown days where he showed up at a party, and upon arrival, announced “who wants to sex Mutombo”?

Very sad day. Aside from his relatively brief but memorable tenure with the Sixers and his amazing work off the court, he alongside Hakeem helped put Africa on the NBA map and paved the way for current players like Embiid, Siakam, etc. RIP big man.

R.I.P. to a guy who came across as a great person and a class act. Just way, way too soon.

First Mutombo, now Pete Rose. Two guys that didn't play in Philly for very long but made an impact when they were here. What a sad day in sports.

Yeah, R.I.P. to Pete as well, one of the best pure hitters who ever lived. I'll forever have a warm spot for him for his huge role in the '80 World Series run.

He was so overmatched in 01 but still made Shaq work for everything. Very respectable
