Maxey Challenged Embiid in Team Meeting

Not surprising Embiid is a ball and chain on the team. Surprising however that Maxey has risen to that degree of a leadership role.

Seems like a positive development. Jo and Tyrese don't have an antagonistic relationship.

Woefully indicative however of the team's central problem during the post-Butler Embiid era -- Embiid is the opposite of a leader. And when your team centerpiece functions in that manner, you have major problems. The 9th guy in the rotation can function like Embiid and it won't matter. The team centerpiece cannot, however.

Feel like we already knew this. It's encouraging that Tyrese is stepping up as a leader, although it's a Shams article so who knows how accurate it is.

Honestly, I will take this as a extremely positive development and will do so until half time of the Grizzlies game.

Embiid being late for team activities on top of not producing on the court is a really bad look. Get it together man. You've been in the league for 10 years, it's time to start acting like an adult. Whenever things go awry he always gets like this. Start doing your job and start playing better.

That will have a significant positive effect to the degree that the team becomes more centered around Maxey and less around Embiid. If Maxey is functioning as the team leader, he should also function as its centerpiece on the court. Then there is the necessary consistency between who has the ball in the clutch and who is leading the team.

I don't agree that you need to be the centerpiece of the offense to be a leader.

Love that the future are two workaholics who play high effort, team basketball. Just need to figure out how the Maxey/McCain tandem works so it doesn’t turn into a decade of Lillard/McCollum not quite crossing the finish line.

glad that someone with actual clout is calling out Biid and not like PJ Tucker

lets see if he responds to it lol

but yeah this is bad and can either be the end or the start of a turn around.

You don't, but the centerpiece of your team can't be the opposite of a leader. That's highly problematic. At that point you have to turn that role on the team over to the next-best player who exhibits the most leadership.

Hopefully, this lights a fire under his ass.

If not, please shut him down for the year, draft Flagg and explore trade options in the summer.

He has to make a critical decision here to turn the team over to Maxey and reduce Embiid's role or risk losing the team.

As I've been saying for years, this is a retirement gig. For Doc, for Morey, for George, now Nurse. No one is invested in winning besides Maxey and now McCain.

24 year old having to tell a 30 year old star that being on time matters and it affects his teammates is so concerning. We’ve all seen how Jo gets mopey when he has a bad game this has validated some of those concerns he just has a loser vibe about him.

Not surprising that Joel has been disengaged this season based on his play but bummer to have the worst confirmed. Embiid should have to earn his shots & touches for the rest of the year.

I’m glad Maxey called him out & has assumed the leadership mantle for this group tho. He’s earned it every step of the way.

It’s still the NBA lol

The only person who can really keep guys in line is Pat Riley. Need your “stars” to actually be adults, tough concept
always a jump shot away.
