Where do you stand on the Sixers tanking the season?

I legitimately want the Sixers to tank, I've officially given up on the season and want them to lose.

Where do you stand on tanking this season?

I want an official tally of where everyone stands.

I'm option #1. Even if Embiid and PG come back healthy and play, they'll be missing a bunch more games with back to backs and any other games with injuries they miss. That combined with several role players looking awful this year like Oubre, Lowry, and even Martin not being as good as people expected... even if Embiid and PG were 100%, they probably don't have the ammo to make a playoff run. And those two would have to stay healthy for an entire playoff run.

And there's one other thing: being in the mix for the playoffs may cause Morey to blow their picks on a deadline trade because he's desperate. That's another reason I want them to suck and tank, I want them to keep all of their picks for a future time. It's not happening this season, don't hurt your future out of desperation.

They are in too big of a hole to dig out of this year already.

This is very good draft at the top, and they have a top 6 protected pick.

Everybody important save Yabu and Oubre are on multi-year contracts.

Tank the year and come back next.

Not sure yet. Remember there is no guarantee that we'll be keeping our pick, even if we do tank if at least 2 teams finish worse than us in the standings. As we witnessed during the Process era, it's often tough to finish with the worst record especially in a year when a number of other teams will also be tanking due to it reportedly being a strong draft. Someone suggested that we trade the 2028 Clippers pick to OKC for greater protection (lotto protected or top 10 at the very least). I wouldn't be opposed to that idea though I would wait until closer to the deadline and we don't see significant improvement before officially throwing in the towel on this season.

Note per current lottery odds, if we finish with one of the two worst records, we are guaranteed to keep our pick. If we finish third worst, we have roughly a 7% chance of losing it and a 19% chance of losing it if we finish fourth worst.

I’m leaning towards tanking, but I’m not fully committed to the idea yet. The main reason is that I believe this draft class might be the best in a decade, making it a rare opportunity. At the same time, there are significant hurdles we need to overcome to win a championship. We need both Jojo and George to stay healthy—something that hasn’t happened—and we need to build strong chemistry (have you seen how well the Celts play?), which also hasn’t materialized.

However, the reason I’m still hesitant to embrace tanking is the talent and depth of this team. Plus, I don’t have a clear picture of Jojo and George’s actual health status, which makes the decision even tougher.

As I mentioned in the other thread, if we decide to tank, I’d want a full reset—which means trading both Jojo and George. Because in today’s NBA, it’s all about reaching a certain talent threshold and then rolling the dice. Success often comes down to showing up at your best every time the cards are shuffled, with luck ultimately deciding the winner each year. You can’t achieve that when you have a player who can’t consistently be available.

Lastly, as a fan, I just want to enjoy watching the games without constantly worrying about a player’s health—or sitting through a playoff game wondering whether we’ll get Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde.

It’s one thing if your shots aren’t falling; that happens. But it’s entirely different when we don’t even know if you’re going to show up, or if you’ll look lethargic out there. I just don’t know what to expect anymore. Even when their shots don’t go in, players like Giannis or Jokic bring the same intensity every game. Honestly, it feels like a 10-year scam at this point, where the blame just keeps getting passed to the next guy.

Jojo says he can’t win because there’s no continuity due to roster shuffling. But how can there not be roster shuffling when you constantly need more help? If you could win with JJ, Ben, and Dario, we wouldn’t have had to make all those trades. And let’s not ignore the biggest reason for the lack of continuity—his availability. How can we build chemistry when he’s missing games, including back-to-backs, this season? It’s a vicious cycle.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Tank. Embiid is probably done as a top 5 player in the league. His knee is cooked, he will start to miss a lot of games because of swelling on the knee. And PG isnt enough to make a diference in the playoffs without Joel( and looks kinda washed too).

If we can get a top 5 pick in this draft we will have a nice core of that pick, maxey and Mccain. Sadly the process failed..

I'm legit all 3 of those options.

Pro win determined on Joel's outlook.

Pro tank if he ain't good. Pretty much as simple as that.

So, I guess I'm in the middle depending on information. Which means I'll never decide if I'm waiting on information from this organization.

Process worked; Sixers just managed to spend 8 years mismanaging every single asset Hinkie obtained in just 2 years.

logically they should tank. The bad start gave them leeway and if Biid is truly hurt then who cares

however one could also point to the fact that the east is so bad that a 4-1 week would put you back in the mix.

plus washed or not, its a locker room full of vets who took less to be here....that won't go over well.

BUT AGAIN, team has won 3 games...at some point it won't be a tank but rather we just aren't good to which yeah tank.

I just have a big fear we'd be bad but not bad enough with teams like then Wizards, Jazz and soon Nets all blowing it up to be worse and we'd def lose our pick lol

Tank, but it's full on tank. None of this Andre Miller BS where "all of a sudden" we're Ballin and winning games like it went down in 07. We were in firm lead of the Oden/Durant race and Andre Miller changed all that. Can't have that happen. You take this season as a loss. It's a terrific draft from what I've heard and Flagg is the prize. Play for that. Give the team a present AND a future to play with.

Don't rush the big fella back. I still believe in him! I want to watch the M&M show grow. And will continue to watch all the games. It is like a soft re-boot of the process. Waiting for Joel to join the team so they can go and win and prove the doubters wrong. I just hope if they do tank they actually get a player that wants to improve his game and does not forget how to play basketball.
You want it to be one way....but it's the other way. (Marlo)

Maybe you shouldn't listen to JoJo anymore, I have stopped.

He wanted George, he got him and now he's making excuses there's no chemistry? Instead of making sure he's in shape and a professional teammate

Complete nonsense from him.

He's just about that, excuses. I'm done with him, that's why I'm also completely for the tank and the selling of Embiid (if anyone wants him).

At this moment, I'm enjoying seeing McCain, Maxey and Ricky develop, and I'm hoping for a L at the same time

I had a realization today.

Ask yourself this: which would we regret more?

Failing to chase a championship or failing to go all in tanking for Cooper Flagg?

Winning a championship just to prove that “the process” wasn’t a failure is pointless.

It’s taken over 10 years—a process no one would ever want to do it over again.

I would love to tank, but I’m still not convinced we can lose that many games. We are too talented when fully healthy. And one good month will put us in a spot where we are handing over the 8th pick to OKC.

Morey might convince everybody that we need to shut down Embiid at some point for the season, but we should have PG for a lot of games. He isn’t PG from five years ago, but good enough to play us out of the bottom five.

We might hit the 20 game mark with 3 or 4 wins, but I don’t think we can lose at that rate all season. If PG and Embiid were out, I think it would play out perfectly.

The process of collecting assets to build a stronger team is the same as saving money to invest in the stock market. If you lose all of your money, it doesn’t mean the stock market didn’t work. It means the strategy of purchasing stocks was poorly executed. The strategy of building a non competitive team to get higher draft picks, trading your better players for more assets, and focusing on the development of young players is a sound strategy. The implementation will have varying results depending on who is executing the plan.

Sticking with the analogy, Hinkie did an excellent job saving money to buy stocks, but him, Colangelo, and Brand wasted the money by investing in most of the wrong stocks. The process looks much better when Sam Presti is using those draft picks.

This is a major concern and possible silver lining. Embiid’s knees are toast. You have to realize when you have a sunk cost and not keep throwing money at this team. The 70 point Embiid may show up here and there, but probably not consistently enough to give us a real shot at winning a title. We put a team around him, but he just isn’t healthy. To keep wasting resources to save this team is irresponsible. We are already going to be paying PG and Embiid well into their declining years. Our cap is shot. Let’s not waste our picks as well. Give us something to focus on our future.

I would take winning a chip.
Da fuq?

Cooper Flagg may never be as good as Biid.

The process worked. It got us a MVP level talent. The poor decisions made afterward is what cost us actually winning it all. We went into the process because we had just used all of our assets on Bynum and we litterally had nothing to build with. If we have to process again, I wouldn't mind or be afraid of it because in an alternate world we basically be the Celtics with Embiid with just two alternate picks.

This process revisionist history doesn't work imo

Winning a chip is **** hard lol, one bad decision can pretty much end it...we made multiple. It is what it is.
