Time to Fire Nick Nurse?

I know this roster has it’s issues, but I still believe Nurse deserves alot of the blame.
There is no way a team with this talent should be 20-35.. Maybe we let him finish it out to fully command the tank, but no way in hell he is back next season in my opinion.

He probably resigns in the offseason to "spend time with his family" to save face as we probably SHOULD rebuild or do a short step back and he probably doesn't want to be involved in that. BUT I also wonder if Harris will want to pay potentially 2-3 coaches lol.
That aside, he's done a worse job than Doc FFS from a pure coaching stand point. Doc has his issues and I hated him lol BUT he also did his best coaching during the periods of missing Biid and players. IDK how but he did. So the injury stuff is not an excuse IMO. Nurse has been rigid and uncreative which were the whole reasons we allegedly hired him. I don't care if its the player dictating things or not, whatever we are currently doing is not working...offensively or defensively. THAT is on the coach to fix. Injuries or not, our approach is just baffling IMO. On defense it feels like we allow offenses to dictate everything, we are always chasing on screens and allowing the corner three...which is what every modern offense wants. Its easier said than done but last night, instead of the **** ass zone he loves, he should have forced the Js to just make tough shots .they can and have but its damn sure better than the easy one read to wide open shooters because we doubled tatum every time. YES a hampered Biid def hurts this as he cannot move on the perimeter I get that but this is the same **** that happens when he's not there too imo.
The offensive approach which is also mostly on Biid's shoulders in terms of blame TBF is also terrible. He cannot move. I don't give a **** if he wants it a certain way...**** him lol Use him as a pick and pop, use him on the short roll. DO NOT attempt to use a gimpy ass Biid as the offensive hub when he cannot make the same moves anymore. Stop wasting 10 secs attempting to get him the ball in the post in the most obvious ways that the double can just walk over to double and then there isn't enough time left for an actual good shot.
But just in general I want to see the mad scientist nutjob we were promised. Try new weird ****.
I have never played organized ball and I generally admit my BBall X and Os aren't the greatest but if my dumbass can see some simple changes I don't understand how dudes getting paid for this **** can't see it lol. It won't make us contenders as that ship has sailed. Biid is cooked and the whole thing rests on that not being the case I get that but holy **** this recent stretch is also due to just some baffling approach issues and that falls at the feet of the stupid guitar nerd.

What 2 people decided to vote bring back next year. He is terrible.

He's been underwhelming for sure. Seems like it makes more sense why Raps fans were happy to wipe their hands clean of him. I'm not sure who is out there to replace him with but would gladly take a new coach next season

Ownership is not going to pay for three dead years. And Nurse is not going to give up like 24M (or whatever it is exactly he gets paid).
And Morey is not rebuilding yet, he's going to run it back and chalk this all up to injuries.
Maybe next year we can have this discussion.

Really don't care either way at this point. If we continue to lean on pouty superstars, chase washed free agents, and develop no semblance of an actual team culture it wouldn't matter if 90's Phil Jackson walked through the door.
Everything is in need of an overhaul and finding a good coach should probably be one of the last things on the list.

Absolutely not. Nurse is a good coach. The team stinks. That’s on the GM. You want to fire people start with Morey and Brand.

I read a bit about Nurse, Raptors fans say that he was a good coach in the beginning and had a great roster as well, but then during Covid something happened, he lost interest, communicated with players only through assistant coaches, ran the same schemes although they did not work etc.
They say he is a weirdo, and a person who interacted with him said he was an ***hole. He seems to be similar to Morey in that regard haha, maybe that's one of the reasons he hired him.
But when the results are not there, this looks very ugly, and it seems to me that players have turned their back on him. It is otherwise hard to explain such a bad performance against the Bulls, since it is in the players own interest to play well and position themselves on the NBA market. If teams want to tank, they usually shut their best players down for the season or trade them. So either this is a very elaborate tanking scheme that everyone is buying into, or Nurse will get fired.
This loss against Bulls was so unusual that if you bet a 100 dollars that the Sixers would lose by 30+ points, you would have won 35 000, the odds were 1 in 350. There must be something going on.

Best case scenario for the franchise is probably:
-Keep our pick & get a top 5 talent in the draft
-Embiid retires
-Trade PG at next years deadline
-Fire Nurse & hire Sam Cassell
Turn the franchise over to Maxey/McCain and some young wings with Cassell mentoring the group and proving himself as a coach.

Yeah, the whole team is checked out and just playing pickup ball.

What would be the point of firing him now? I hope to God they aren't trying to "save the season".
It's an off-season move IMO. I think he's a good coach, but has been awful this year at adapting, and the team seems like they've thrown in the towel. I'm not sure that's something you bounce back from as a coach unless these guys were to really go to bat for him the Eagles did with Siriani last year. It's also just the easiest move to make, and someone is going to take the fall.

Also his affinity to run players into the ground... Telling Joel he needs to play more in what was supposed to be a retool year is the precise time of death of all things Sixers

He'll get a last chance next year as this year will get a mulligan due to crazy amounts of injuries.
Plus the owner is way too cheap to fire him with 3 years left on his deal.
He'll get a chance to turn them around ala Memphis this year.

I’ve always believed that if you’re going to fire a coach, you need to consider who will replace him. Are you hiring a coach to compete or to tank? Right now, this team lacks direction, so it’s better to stay the course until there’s a clear plan.
And if we plan to tank this season? Why do you need to replace Nurse when he’s doing a great job with that objective?

Agree. Firing Nurse now is pointless, and there had better be a clear plan when he is fired.

What are peoples' thoughts on Sam Cassell? It's interesting he never got a HC gig since leaving us. From what I remember the players liked him and he's been with Boston since 2023, a organization that gets it.

Sam not getting a job by now is probably a red flag lol.
I remember people stomping for Patric Ewing to get a job forever then he went to Georgetown and was bad. Some guys are great as assistants who are there to motivate and teach but no so much lead.

College is different, I think Ewing would've been fine in the NBA.
I think Cassell just doesn't play golf well with owners or GMs... Relates with talent though
