Proof Josh Harris is a cheap b...

A top-4 market and ONLY TWO (2) tax seasons out of 14 years owning the team.
Leaving aside his spineless capitulation to Adam Slither to destroy The Process... Josh Harris is a cheap piece of garbage who ruined Embiid's prime by being too damn CHEAP to build a winner around him.

Sell the team Josh!

I'm no fan of Harris if for no other reason than his allowing Silver to ruin the Process, but I don't see nearly as much correlation between paying the tax and playoff success as proper team management and drafting success. Harris has shown the willingness to spend for players like Harris, Horford, Harden and George, and aside from the Harden team being the closest to being a legit contender, what has he gotten for it?
Of course, allowing Silver to wreck the franchise started a run of hideous management choices, so for that in and of itself he deserves to be reviled by the fan base, which has little to do with him being cheap.

Eh.
They were willing to pay the tax this year up until the wheels fell off (KJ doesn't get that contract if that's not true), and I can't blame them for going the other way when they did.
He's also built that new practice facility, pushed for the new stadium, and spent a ton of coaches/execs in recent years.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like the guy. But I don't think he's an issue really. Much better than the Comcast days.

Generally agreed but in hindsight it was the setback during Embiid's recovery and him needing a second surgery on his foot and subsequent drafting of Okafor out of desperation (one can certainly speculate whether it was Hinkie's choice to draft Okafor or his hand was forced by Harris and company but we'll never know for sure) that caused Silver and the league (who I'm not defending by any means) to intervene and force the Colangelos on us. It was Jerry who reportedly blocked the proposed Okafor trade to Boston that Hinkie wanted to do at the 2016 deadline which led to him essentially being stripped of his duties at the end of the season. And the rest is history.
Had that setback with Embiid not occurred, our fortunes as a franchise might have turned out completely different. But shoulda woulda coulda I know.

Had the Okafor trade been allowed to go through think how much might have changed for both franchises. The Okafor draft was a hideous decision in real time, but Silver's meddling is what started the snowball rolling.

This cheap bastard has only paid $38m of tax in 12 years, meanwhile real contenders are spending hundreds of millions. No idea why fans give him a pass on this.
His cheapness is the reason we didn’t run back our best team with Butler after getting so close in 2019.

The real mistake with Okafor wasn’t how we handled him after the draft.. it was drafting him in the first place. If we had taken someone like Kristaps and the trade didn’t go through, at least we’d still have a player with real on court value and flexibility. But with Okafor, it felt like we were the scammer trying to convince someone to trade us gold for garbage.
That’s also why ownership felt the need to push Hinkie out. Imagine having the No. 3 pick today, and every top prospect’s agent refuses to let their client play for your team.. except maybe Egor Demin or someone further down the board.

Totally agree that the primary mistake was even picking Okafor - I was saying at the time to just draft Porzingas and dare him to not show up rather than picking a certain bust in Okafor. But that doesn't excuse Silver for overturning a deal that Hinkie had made and in the "process" wrecking the franchise.
As for your second part, I'm sorry, but there is no justification for the league to step in and force a franchise to change front office personnel because they don't approve of the team building methods. Ownership "felt the need" because of pressure being exerted by the POS snake Silver.

I thought Butler was offered the max but he hated Brett Brown and didn’t want to be second fiddle to Ben.

I don't think Butler was offered the MAX. The stuff about Brett and Ben was a cover story for the fact they didn't want to pay him.
Accordingly, they pivoted to the "secret man" (Horford) cap space plan, which of course, got them under the tax line.
It's amazing how almost every year they come up with a plausible excuse to duck the tax.

The fact that they traded for Tobias after they traded for Butler when both were free agents and later Butler yelled "Tobias Harris over me!?" makes me think he didn't turn down the max from the Sixers, but rather they pivoted from him.

The big mistake was the Mikal Bridges draft because it brought us the pick that ultimately brought in Tobias and screwed up the thinking on Jimmy.
Also, the Jimmy and Ben/Brett stuff was absolutely real. Jimmy does not tolerate fakers and losers and he knew that's exactly what Ben was and Brett was protecting him. The team made a bad decision to back Ben and Brett and move off Jimmy b/c they thought signing Tobias would balance it out.
Sorry, owner's ain't cheap. He literally built a beautiful state of the art facility when past ownership forced our professionals to practice and workout at a freaking medical school facility.
Let's not forget he was willing to fire coaches with years left on the contracts just to try and get a better coach in.
The issue hasn't been money, it's been trying to find a sound decision maker after blowing by letting Hinkie get pushed out. I totally believe we have a title if we had kept Hinkie. OKC is proof that Hinkie's vision would have worked out.

I share your belief that if Hinkie had been allowed to continue we would have seen a title by now, but I'm not sure Hinkie was the drafter that Presti has turned out to be. I always had a problem loading up on centers with high picks in a time when the game was moving to the perimeter, but I'll also always believe that the Okafor draft was forced due to no real options at #3 and no good trade down offers, and that the pump-and-dump of Okafor was the plan all along. He had Ainge hooked, and the scumbag Silver pulled the rug out.

Excellent point. However, I think Butler said on Redick podcast that he wasn’t coming back if Brett was the coach. He could be trying to change the narrative, but it does make sense. Also, to support your point, Jo seems to imply that the Sixers didn’t really try to keep Jimmy.

I guess being cheap didn't prevent OKC and IND playing in the recent NBA Finals ...

Nope, not at all, but there's a decent chance that this prevents them from being a serious contender two years from now when Tyrese returns.
