Dalembert On The Move?

All the speculation surrounding Philadelphia's next trade has centered around Andre Miller -- though we hear that Gordan Giricek will actually be the next player the Sixers move. But if Philadelphia is going to make a hard run at Elton Brand on the free-agent market this coming summer (assuming he opts out of his contract), the Sixers will need to clear Dalembert's $10.25 salary for next season off their books. Dalembert, though, also has a 7.5 percent trade kicker, which makes him very tough to move.

This makes no sense to me. Why would Sixers trade Giricek we need his expiring contract this summer, plus if we don't move Daly and move Miller we can still sign Brand. Is this guy on crack?

quick answer: yes

Daly is going nowhere.

That would be genius. Trade our starting 5 who is currently lighting it up and just coming into his own for a hobbled Brand that could possibly never be the player he was before the injury. This guy doesn't understand that we need a PF to play alongside with our Center. You can't subtract one for the other.

Dalembert is not in a favorable trade position for the rest of the league right now because he is EARNING his salary right now and is looking like a very good center. It will cost a team some real quality young talent to get Dalembert.

As long as Brand is expected to fully recover, sure you can. Especially when the one you're adding gives you everything the one you're subtracting does, and then some. Brand would give us Sammy + a low post player. That changes everything. The need for another big man wouldn't be as urgent as even Smith would be a nice compliment to Brand. I would love to do a sign and trade with the Clippers, Sammy + filler for Brand.

What athlete in the modern era has ever had any sort of serious leg injury and wasn't expected to fully recover? like 99.9999999% of them. Yet only a minority percentage ever gain the same athleticism back. This injury has aged Brand even more so in my opinion. I don't think that he will regain the same explosiveness. It's not like he had much of it to begin with, but now it's worse and I believe he REALLY needed that little but of explosivness.

.

Brand is an undersized PF who works his tail off. I'll give you that he's got a nice post game but since when does he alter as many shots as Sam? That is a big part of playing the 5. I know first hand that when Sam goes to the bench other teams go straight to the rim. Is Brand the type of player who will deter that from happening? Truth be told, you need both here to have an effective frontcourt. I'm tried of robbing Peter to pay Paul. Get Brand or J. Smith and keep Sam here!

Not really. Elton Brand's start max salary for a contract he can be offered next year is 15.65 million, which is about 5-6 more than we're projected to have. To get to that point, we'd have to move either Miller or Dalembert, or multiple players (Evans + Carney, for example).

His assertion that we'd have to move dalembert to make a run at Brand isn't correct, but his point that we're not quite there yet is.

Dbods, where are you getting this number. i know the max a player can be signed to depends on their years in the league, but I did not think he would have to take a pay cut. Do you have a link to what the max is based on years experience?

Also, get to work on the interview article...

keep in mind that a guy like sheridan does his homework -- he starts the article by saying, basically, that his info is based on discussions with GMs -- which can sometimes create an even more speculative article than you might expect (from say Chad Ford or Bill Simmons who unabashedly make up and/or suggest trade ideas). why? because sheridan decides to feel out the trade market. so, he goes out and calls a few GMs who, in turn, a) give him names they've actually heard and/or b) give them names they'd like to hear, to float the idea out there. it's tough for writers to sniff out the BS all the time. the suggestion makes no sense whatsoever... so, you almost have to just chalk it up to the league-wide GM poker game being played through the media, leading up to the deadline.

He won't have to take a pay cut if he re-ups with the clips.

By the way... I do find it interesting that Amare's name came up in that same report of stars that could be on the move. I'm telling you that he should be the #1 target for Stefanski this summer.

Does anyone remember what the rumored draft night deal between the Suns and Hawks was for Amare. I remember hearing about a deal the two teams had on the table but due to Atlanta's ownership issues, it was shot down. I do think each team denied the report, but that could just be because they didn't want to upset any players who were involved.

I'm trying to remember what Atlanta was giving up in the rumor. I know it was pick #3, and probably pick #11, but was there also players involved? Just trying to get an idea of what Phoenix was willing to take in return.

Amare would fit in well here but has he recovered from his injury and if not, does it look like he ever will? Last thing we need here is the 2008 version of CWebb.

I think Phoenix was getting Garnett in that deal. If I remember right it was a 3 teamer KG to the Suns, Amare to Altanta and the picks etc,, to Minny.

STChaser, Brand has averaged 2.1 blocks over his career while Sammy has averaged 2. Brand can block ahots and alter shots. He use to block us at will when we played him.

Ah, thanks Barkley. I could have sworn it was just a 2 team deal where the Suns were looking for the pick(s) and cap relief. Guess I remembered it wrong.

Those in the know, could Giricek be traded for a trade exception? Who has any available? I would assume that is the only way he leaves here unless he becomes a throw in for something that we actually WANT or he is cut after trade deadline as the obligatory favor to a veteran player.
