The Boston Globe has reported that the agent for Minnesota swingman Gerald Green has asked Timberwolves' vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale and general manager Jim Stack to trade his client.

Green will make $1.4 million this year, and Minnesota opted to decline his option for next season.

He will become an unrestricted free agent this summer. [READ]

Maybe we can trade Rodney Carney straight up for Green. I would love that trade.

Carney is a better player than Green. Atleast Carney can play NBA caliber defense. Green is just SUPER athletic garbage that can get his own shot. This Green trade demand is about money. He clearly isn't good enough to be on the floor many minutes for any NBA team that is looking to win a game. He should be ashamed of himself. I would have liked for the Sixers to have shown some interest in signing him this offseason but now I know he isn't about being a good basketball player and that's why he hasn't improved the way he was expected to by this point in his career. Green has lost himself alot of money...

Green's a punk. I think some college ball would have done him some good. Mature him a bit.

Send Em I'm usually with you a 100% especially with the Iggy trades but i gotta say nah to this one man , Green has to better than Carney. It defies logic to suggest otherwise. Defense from a bum bench player is more important than offense from a bum bench player. Carney's individual defense is better than Green's individual offense. Green's defense is WORST than Carney's offense. Think about the worst you have ever seen Carney play on offense, well Green's defense and hustle are below that level.

Green can create his own shot and knock down 3's but all of that comes without any assists, offensive rebounds, and with a high turnover rate.

Atleast you can defensively match up Carney on the elite SG's and SF's in the league and not have that player be GUARANTEED to have an above average night. When Green plays defense it's literally like watching a high school basketball player trying to guard an NBA player.

It just all depends on what you value but out of the two players the only thing that is consistent and good is Carney's defense. Green still has "potential" but he is cut from the Tracy McGrady/Vince Carter mold in that he focuses solely on putting the ball through the hoop. But he is NOWHERE NEAR good enough to have that kind of selfish approach.

I think Green is still young enough that if he was worked in as a bench player on a disciplined team he could work through his sloppiness and harness his unbelievable natural athletic ability.

Green won't improve on a bad team like where he has been the past 2 seasons (or on the Sixers) because he will be one of the better scorers on his team, and not have to play a more disciplined game.

Put him on Dallas and give him 10 minutes a night of tough couched minutes, and he might turn the corner in the next few years. The Sixers would not be the right place for him. He would just jack up shots and never be motivated to change.

Green will be playing in Europe in a couple of years. Who is he to demand a trade? Dude should just be happy he is on an NBA roster.

In Green's defense, he is only 22, and the thing I like about him is that unlike most of these high school punks, everyone says he's a hard worker. I think the last characteristic is why he still has a chance to make it, because some athletes can be coached into BBIQ, but a player with BBIQ can't be coached into a 48-inch vertical leap.

The problem though is that who knows when (or if) he's going to make use of that ability? MIN is cash-strapped next season to stay under the lux, and while they like Green, they wouldn't commit to an extension that had the possibility of costing them $7 mil ($2.5 salary + $4.5 mil in lux costs) if they felt they wanted to bring back their players and sign two first round draft picks (now just one, with MIA hitting the skids). He's a UFA this summer.

I don't have a lot of hope for Carney either, but I'd make the swap for MIN and pay his salary next year. If he's not in PHI's future plans, at a minimum GG is an expiring, and if he blows up in the second half (and he might), PHI might have the inside track on re-signing him.

Seems like an uneventful trade for either side, so I don't really care.

What about Jason Smith for Gerald Green?

That way Smith can escape this sorry team.

And the Herb Hill lovers can get their guy burn.

I'm not sure why he's not getting more burn in MN he actually does a fairly decent job and isnt as bad as most make him out to be. But with his athletic ability he should be so much more.

As for Jason smith for GG. I can't see that happening. I'd do it from MN's side obviously, and in fact I'd toss out the BOS 09 and MIA 2nd in the deal.

I'd do a green for green swap!

Green could be had this offseason as a FA, if wanted at all, for about 3 million per year for 2 years. That's what I think the going rate would be for him.

I answer your question with a question -- why in the world would you want to trade Lou for Gerald Green?

On my end, I'd rather have the cap space than Willie and his contract. If Gerald can be packaged with another expiring I'd go for it in a second.
