I'm almost ready to give up hope for trying to be a contender anytime soon. I'll be happy with a 500 team that is young and entertaining.

Neither make us that great, but Smith, Young and Iguodala would be fun to watch. Dominique's teams weren't so great, but they were fun to watch.

I guess as a Philly fan- as much as we complain about 25 years since a championship- we have been blessed with a great run of Superstars. Wilt->Doc->Charles->AI with not many years in between.

I hope we find another player of that HOF caliber soon. Needless to say that player is not on our roster.

That doesn't mean we should try to dump all of our players- it just makes the near future seem a bit bleak.

I know he's like 250 now, but is Smith really a PF?

I guess we just throw Iguodala, Smith and Young out there at 2,3,4 and take our knocks against bigger teams but force many teams to adapt to our explosive lineup.

Tough call b/c Calderon is the better player, but Smith fills a bigger void. Smith isn't a true PF, but does grab 8 boards a game and gets to the line about 6x/game. I haven't seen enough Smith to know if he's adaptable to make it work, but I think Calderon is a solid PG with 3pt range...that is lacking on this team as well.

PG (hopefully its Derrick Rose) , Iggy, Smith, and Thad, Daly would be a very scary lineup to go up against in a year or 2, IMO.

This team is really not that far away from being a factor. We're good off season from getting there.

And is Jose Calderon really that good? I haven't seen him play at all.

I say Josh Smith, but for all the people that want him to be our PF, I have to ask you this..

Are you going to be happy with your PF standing on the preimeter shooting 18-20 ft jumt shots all game? That's all Smith does unless he's on the break. Now I know he may only be doing that cause that's how Atlanta wants him to play, but I doubt that's the case. Since he shoots jumpers at such a low rate, I highly dount they consider him to be better playing like a wing. I guess it's also possible he's trying to develop post moves and isn't yet comfortable doing it in games. Personally, I just don't think he wants to be a post player on offense.

I saw the last 2 Atl games and I think I saw him go in the post exactly 1 time in each game. He does offer a lot more as a player though and that's why I would prefer him to Calderon. I want Smith, but not as our future PF...I want him as the future SF. Where does that leave Thad/Andre? Not sure, but I would be content with Smith at the 4 for a year while we figure it out. Then I would prefer to see him moved to the 3 when we get a better PF option.

Asking Smith to be a post player isn't really playing to his strengths, which right now are in transition and as a face up PF. If he ever gets any consistency in his shot (which is still very much a work in progress), PF's won't have a chance of staying in front of him off the dribble.

His 3's attempted per game are down quite a bit this year, and his jump shots overall are down a bit as well. He still takes too many, but I do think he has potential to have value offensively as a PF, and can actually become quite a matchup problem if he can develop consistency in that 18-20 foot shot.
