Save Reggie!

im going go ahead and get off the fence. I think we should keep reggie evans. He has proven that he is not an NBA starter. But he has also proven that given 20 minutes he can be a nice spark off the bench defensively and for rebounding. He will be a handful for any bench 4 from any other team. Some think his defense is bad, but I disagree. His help defense is good and his man defense can be very annoying which is great when he is on your team. Not to mention anyone that ever goes against is going to be worrried that reggie may grab their kibbles and bits. In fact he really is kind of a jerk out there which i love. I think he can be our Ben Wallace without the blocked shots.
When we played the bobcats Iggy was getting smoked by Wallace when Thad was out, so Mo put Reggie on him.. Originally when i saw this, i was worried b/c i figured gerald would just blow by him. But then reggie got right up in his face gave him no space and he passed it back to McInnis on one possession and then turned it over on another. Then last night he comes off the bench and rocks the house against a tired bucks team.
I know alot will disagree but i think he is rare player. Much like the opposite which is a low post scoring threat that we desperately need. I feel that if we are going to make a trade - its with willie since he is more dime a dozen than reggie. Really there arent many players like him - warts and all.
So if were clearing money lets send away willie and keep reggie for our next years bench. Every team needs a player that makes the other team uncomfortable. Every time i see him guarding people they have look on there face like "oh, great, reggie is guarding me, i better protect my junk"

I didnt bother reading it cause it was too long, but I saw you said you wanted to keep evans because he is a good bench player, so on that we agree

So by "save reggie" you mean "don't do a damn thing". I'm all about being lazy.

Depending on what their exact calculations regarding the cap figure for next year shows, trading Reggie Evans might make sense IF Green or somebody else can't be moved and he's the only one who can be to gain that necessary extra bit of cap room.
I wouldn't mind keeping Evans around for the bench either, but shoring up the starting lineup is the priority and at the very least we know we have Jason Smith around as a backup who should be a decent option, if not quite the rebounder that Evans is.
Thats not a slight against Evans, its just a realization that this team has larger priorities than backup PF.

I sort of agree with each position- and probably am on the same page as Ed.
WG, KK and Evans all have reasonable contracts for what they do- although Reggie and WG have longer contracts than I would expect for a role player. All three can help you off the bench if you are a good team.
KK and Reggie are harder to replace than WG- and I agree with phillyborn_jacksonite that Reggie could become our Rodman- the craz yguy that disrupts the other teams frontcourt and has infectious- if somewhat disturbing- intensity.
I also agree with Ed (and Cpops) that until we are more settled with our starters and direction keeping a specialized role player like KK or Evans is more of a luxury then a necessity-p and they should be moved if it helps you build your starting core.

I woudn't be upset if we kept or got rid of Reggie. We do need to free up some more cap space though. If it takes Green and a second rounder to do it, then so be it.

Not a problem for me...he's shown energy off the bench. If he's traded, I don't think it hinders the long term plan, if he stays, I don't think it hinders the long term plan. Same with Willie, but if the right deal is out there, they should jump at it.

I like Reggie Evans in everyway except ... free throws. If he does not improve to at least 60% on his free throw percentage he is a dangerous liability when the games mean something.

I think he's meaning that he doesn't want reggie traded for cap space. I disagree very much.

I agree with this poster.
If it's between trading evans or accquiring a Josh Smith Elton Brand, give me the latte two.
Reggie Evans is not a rodman at all. Do you know that Kyle Korver got traded?

The point is Ed traded KK despite him being a reasonably paid useful player because he was seen as a luxury on a rebuilding team. Same thing applies to having a rebounding/hustle specialist like Evans. Nothing wrong with having him, but there are more pressing needs.
