Let's say we keep Miller, and we don't spend any money next summer, how much would we have for the 09 summer?

Yes I would like to know this as well. Too many people are pressuring the Sixers with the expectations of Stephanski making a major move to get a PF during the summer.
There aren't any major PF's clearly available and the NBA in general has very few talented PF's.
I think that Philadelphia sports fans/media are going to shoot themselves in the foot as usual with their shortsightedness by forcing Stephanski to make a move over the summer for a PF. If Ed thinks better of forcing a move the fans/media will call him "asleep at the wheel" making his first major mistake as a GM if he goes into next season without "getting that PF"....

from the fans. I think he has been around enough to know better than to make a move just to make the fans happy. I believe he has some sort of plan and will do what he feels is best for the team.

It depends what we sign Iguodala and Williams for. Fortunately none of our young players will be cap holds next summer (like Iguodala is this year.)

If we sign Iguodala and Williams to a combined 13M for next year, and pay our 1st pick about 2M...

Going into next year we will have 10 players under contact + Hill + our first rounder + 3 other guys- and whether one of the remaining three is a big ticket FA is a big "?"

After next season we will be on the books for about 38M for 9 players after two expiring player (Miller and Booth.)

That leaves about 22M to fill out the roster (3-4M of which will go to our presumed 2 #1's in summer '09) That leaves 18M for 4 players. Assume 2 players are junk contracts (like Hill/Shave) the reset will go to FA spending in '08 and '09.

I'm sure I'm off by a bit... but basically, if we stay under the cap this summer, keep Lou, Dala, Green, Evan's etc and make no moves...

We can have 10M to spend this summer and somewhere between 8M and 15M depending on
how cheap we are this summer.

The 15M in '09 figure presumes we sign league minimum type players to fill out our roster this summer after resigning Lou and Dala..

A little over $12.5 million not counting the draft pick. So yeah about 10.

Assuming the Sixers will draft at no. 9 and its worth $1.7m and Igyy for $12m, that gives Philly a total of $48.34m worth of contract. . . If the salary cap will be $58m for next season, same increase as last year, then Philly is probably looking at a cap room worth $9.67m to use this off-season. The question is, Is Iggy going to agree with the $12m as a starting salary?

Man, I'm really getting nervous here.

Tell me why a player who, in a team without stars or scorers, isn't capable of scoring + 22 points and isn't an All-star (not even close), is worth that money.

Please let him walk if he wants more, he's not a franchise player (not even close). Let us spend our money on players who are worth it.

His cap hold is $8.4 million. It doesn't matter what kind of contract he's getting.

And he's not getting a deal starting at $12 million.

Franchise players don't get $10 million a year deals. The 50th highest paid player makes that much this year.

Two things...

1) Take a look at the free agents for the summer of '09 and tell me why Stefanski should wait a year to use the money and tools that are available to him.

2) I really think Ed needs to clear out a little more space for this summer so that he can at least play ball with Josh Smith and Emeka Okafor's agent. Right now, I don't believe they are even an option for us.
