With the Gasol trade and Shaq all but in a Phoenix uni there is talk that San Antonio will look to upgrade at the PF/C spot to help Duncan out. Should the Sixers look to move Sam for some of the Spurs expiring contracts? (they have a few). Something like Sam +filler for Barry, Elson + fillers.

What better way for the Spurs to get back at Phoenix than to trade for the guy that Phoenix was thinking about in Sam?

I would not trade Sam entirely for expiring contracts. They have to give us some other incentives back in order to make it more appealing.

I understand his flaws, but Sam is less than 8 months older than Okafor annd averages a double double. We could not easily replace him- why would we want to move him for expirings.

Aside from the Big 3, the Spurs have nothing that I or anyone else, really wants. I think it will be difficult for San Antonio to make moves to keep Tim surrounded with top notch role players as some of their vets (Finley, Barry, Horry, Bowen) retire. Have you looked at the average age of the Spurs??

At that point it does not make that much sense because we cannot really utilizise the cap room in the offseason. There are not simply the players which are worth it except for Okafor who is better than Sam but hard to obtain. If the free agenzy was more appealing and if the lottery protected some nice big man we would take it certainly into consideration. But at that point, we won't benefit by trading Sammy solely for cap space.

let me guess this straight.. for years, primetime has talked about how great sam dalembert was.. when he sucked.. now that he's been consistently average.. he wants to trade him for expiring contracts?

Could Ed be thinking that he may be able to get a young center in the draft, thus that is why we keep hearing rumblings of Dalembert being moved?

Thabeet, Lopez & Hibbert could all be available when the 6ers draft in June. Hibbert intrigues me because the Georgetown "Princeton" offense has made Hibbert a tremendous passer, which would fit well with our athletic, cutting wings.

http://nbadraft.net/ - The mock at nbadraft.net projects a lot of quality players to be around in picks 15-25, so perhaps we can acquire another pick in this range to add a quzlity 4 for the future or a PG for the future.

Now, my question is where "could" Ed realistically deal Miller and/or Dalembert and what pieces could we get for the future, as well as now?

Dalembert, Green and Randolph for Bargnani, Graham, Martin, Dixon and Garbajosa and this year's 1.

Sell high on Dalembert, get out from underneath that huge deal.

Ok, let the haters come. BUT, Bargnani would give us a quality shooter at the 4/5, he's young, and he has all the potential in the world. Graham gives us a strong prospect at the 2/3/ and maybe even the 4 in a small ball lineup. The rest of the players give us cap space this summer or next.

Potential lineup next year:
PG- Calderon- Miller will be dealt, Calderon signed with our vast cap space
SG- Iguodala
SF- Young
PF- Bargnani
C- Thabeet, Hibbert? Thabeet is the type of C that would make up for having a 4 like Bargnani.

Bench- Carney, Graham, Williams, a PG or PF from the draft, Hill, Garbajosa if healthy, Smith.

* Evans will be dealt away in a Miller deal.

Free agency- Okafor is NOT worth big $$$$, so the PF we want is not going to be there. So, Ed must know this and have a plan. This is my guess. Also, is there a 3 we could target, let Young develop more?

I would love for the sixers to try and get Ian Mahinmi, or the rights to Tiago Splitter (although he's still under contract for the Spanish ACB for 1 more year.)

Not saying I'd trade Dalembert for either, but a package including both would be enticing.

Calderon will come if Garbajosa is already here. Those 2 are pretty tight.

Yeah, this trade might work. Bargnani might not be moved so easily since he's Colangelo's guy. I wonder also though if Bargnani would be tough enough to play in Philadelphia. He hardly can take it in Toronto.

I would not trade Dally to the Spurs for an expiring and their 1st - bc most likely that pick will be a late 1st. Sam is one of the better young centers in the game and his play of late has shown that he can improve his game.

I would shop Sam right now. I know he's playing well but if someone wants to overpay let's strike while that opportunity exists. We can't afford to miss opportunities to get better because we like a guy. If we had a superstar, sure....but we don't. LET'S ACQUIRE ASSETS!

Overpay??? Did you see what Gasol went for? This is a buyers' market and so you're not going to see teams overpaying for Sam Dalembert.

True. I said this in another thread but I think it's worth repeating. The fact that Gasol, Shaq, and Marion have all been dealt TWO WEEKS before the trade deadline should mean that we will see other deals. Teams, specifically in the West, will now have time to work on other deals and put in stronger offers to get them on the same levels as these other teams.

Exactly. I'd love to be on the good end of a steal for once. We've done stupid things in the past....can't we find someone else to be the stupid team in the deal for once?
