Is Thad The Future PF??

I realize that we all want a traditional, dominant big man but that just might not be in the cards. Also I think most of us realize that Iguodala isn't going to make a great shooting guard since his outside shot isn't the greatest.
So with that in mind (and the fact that we've just about exhausted all chat topics about PFs), is it possible that Thad continues to grow into his role as starting PF while Iguodala stays as our starting SF? I'm not even sure who is available or who might be available but perhaps we would be better off trying to get a legit scorer at the 2 who can stretch the floor with the 3 ball and get out and run with the rest of our guys.
Thoughts? Fill in the blank as to who you think would be a good fit with this team as it's starting 2 guard??
Miller/Williams
?????/Green
Iguodala/Carney
Young/Smith
Dalembert/Booth/Hill

just posted in the trade thread about the (highly unlikely) possibility of getting mike miller from the grizzlies.
smith/ollie/green/utah 1st-rounder for miller. smith would provide a young big with some potential, sagely old ollie would be a great influence for their slew of young PGs, and they'd get a future 1st. obviously, there's no reason for them to take on green as well though, so this is just a fantasy.
but i'd love to see m.miller on our starting lineup. he fits the description you gave of a SG that would help this team perfectly (3-pt scorer, can run the floor). i'm not sure it would necessitate moving Thad to the PF though after this season. i still think we'd need to pick up a big man in FA or the draft, or both, especially since we'd be getting rid of smith. but we'd have a pretty good starting lineup and one of the most versatile benches (Thad/LWill) in the east.

Let's complicate this even more TGP. IF we got Josh Smith, could Thaddeus and Smith both switch between PF and SF? Would be interesting, eh.
Truth be told, I'd rather keep Thaddeus at SF. And while Iguodala's shot isn't spectacular, I think it's good enough for him to be our starting SG so long as Lou learns how to properly play the point and gets starter's minutes. And besides, Iguodala shoots a better FG% than Iverson does and look how many years AI was our SG - and while AI could break down a defense much better than Iguodala, if Williams is playing the point, he can play that role.

I think it's feasible on offense. Defensively is where I'd have my worries about him. Here's a list of the top 15 scoring PFs (just taken from espn leaders page, so don't quibble with me about it plz). Can Thad guard these guys? I'd say yes to most of them -- he'd struggle no more than most PFs:
1 C. Bosh
2 D. Nowitzki
3 C. Boozer
4 A. Jamison
5 D. West
6 K. Garnett
7 P. Gasol
8 R. Lewis
9 J. Smith,
10 Z. Randolph
11 L. Aldridge
12 S. Marion
13 A. Harrington
14 E. Okafor
15 L. Odom

I was with you till you said he could guard most of these guys. Alot of them would simply over power and abuse him.

I don't think it's impossible Thad ends up being in the 6'9" 230-235 lbs range in 2-3 years. I don't think it's something you can count on, but i think it's an outside possibility. If that happens, I think Thad can adapt his game to be an effective power forward on both ends of the court. But at 6'7.5"/220, he's going to struggle doing it day in and day out.

Thad can't guard players that have height and strength so he can't be a PF. If a team features two legitimate front court bigs like Gasol/Bynum Kaman/Brand or Shaq/Amare the Thad at PF gimmick is over...

All solid points! I figured I would at least throw this out there since we've be beating a dead horse about PFs would could acquire.

He's 19. I want to see how he fills out and if he grows at all...and see how his game develops before I say whether or not he can play PF in the future. I will say that given our recent discussion of the lack of really quality PFs in the league, losing a little size there could be acceptable, and he'd definitely be hard for bigger slower players to guard

Thad can not guard most PF, he is too short and not strong enough. I have no problem with have Iggy play SG and Thad play SF. We do need to bring in a post presence to play PF. I think that if we had a solid post presence the shooting % of Thad and Iggy would go up.

Iggy better shoot a lot better if he's going to play sg long-trerm. I'd rather trade him if that's the plan. Iggy misses plenty of open shots.

I Believe that quality low post Centers will no longer exist due to good American basketball players not growing as tall and the NBA game changing. But PF's will continue to exist. players like Dwight Howard and Chris Bosh will continue to come in the league and exist in the world. It's just hard to tell if they will develop or turn into Melvin Ely and Chris Wilcox. I believe that we have seen the last of players like Shaq, Ewing, and Hakeem.

Ok. How's that relevant? Do you foresee an influx of dominant PFs?

I actually think Iguodala's set shot is "good enough". It's when he tries the pull ups that he loses some (RE: a ton) of accuracy.

Yes.
Since the year 2000 these players have entered the league
Tyson Chandler
Pau Gasol
Eddy Curry
Zach Randolph
Kenyon Martin
Amare Stoudemire
Carlos Boozer
Chris Bosh
David West
Dwight Howard
Emeka Okafor
Al Jefferson
LaMarcus Aldridge
Al Horford
If Tim Duncan, Shaq, Garnett or Rasheed Wallace aren't winning then the championship will be won by a player on the list above. None of those players are Sixers. We only have one player on our team that can compete with them and that is Dalembert. Thad has no chance against them...Hopefully the Sixers will acquire the next up and coming big yet to enter the league.

We put up with Iverson for years at SG and he shot a worse percentage than Iguodala. And Iverson didn't play defense either. I think we can thrive with Iguodala at SG so long as Williams becomes are starting PG and so long as we surround Iguodala with other players with offense like Thad, Josh Smith or Okafor, etc.

Did I miss something? When did he say that? This seems more like you running with his words and interpreting them differently than intended.
