So here I am... watching the Heat-Lakers game on ABC and Shawn Marion looks just as active in Miami as he did in Phoenix. Unfortunately for him, he's surrounded by a TERRIBLE team that is going nowhere fast.

After the Shaq deal went down earlier in the week, I read a lot about how IF Marion opts-out, the Heat won't look to re-sign him and that he would then screw himself over since only the Grizzlies and Sixers have cap space to offer him anything close to a big deal. Let's say he does opt-out and let's say we can sign him... would you want us to?

Marion will be 30 years old and while he can PF, he's obviously better suited as a SF. What are your thoughts on this? I'm slightly interested in the idea but not in-love with it.

He is not more than an elite role player. We need a big man who can create his own shot and that is certainly not the strength of Marion's game. Moreover, he resembles somehow Thad

I think Young can be our Marion...Burp... so I don't want to bring him in and block Young's development.

Marion certainly fitsw the style team we are building, but he does not really fit a position of need, unless we go small all the time with either Marion or Young playing SF. I would be more intrigued if Marion was a higher percentage jump shooter- since that is a weakness on our squad.

Real athletic- can run with anyone. Still can't shoot or post up. Sounds too much like a slightly improved version of our current team.

Thaddeus Young is 19 years old and more or less brings the same things to the table AT 19. No thanks to Marion, becoming the Phoenix Suns doesn't bring you championships.

It would be a good pick up if we can not get any of the other pf that we are loking at. J Smith, Brand or Okafor. If we want to play like the Suns and go with a quick 6'6 to 6'8 team, I think that it would work with Iggy at the 2, Thad at the 3 and Marion at the 4 with Sammy and Miller, our bench would be solid with Green, Lou Evans and Smith and we would be able to run with anyone so I think it would be a good look at, if we miss out on the other guys....

We could run like Suns- but we couldn't shoot like the Suns. There is the rub.

Dedicated... we're all on the Thad bandwagon but don't say that Thad already brings to the table what Marion does because that's utterly ridiculous.

Like I said... I wasn't sold on the idea but as "Philly Family" said, if we strike out with the others, he's not a bad plan D.

The only way I want Marion is if we can get him for cheap(which won't happen) and bring in another solid vet with the rest of our cap space(while keeping Miller).

It's very unlikely, so basically no.

Iguodala/Williams/Green
Marion/Young/Carney
Jamison/Evans?
Dalembert/Smith

Wouldn't be my first choice I would be happy if he was the guy we came out with this summer.

What he said. Shawn Marion's a very good player, who would actually be a good fit with Andre Miller, if we are intent on keeping him. People are expecting to hold onto this money and walk about with a franchise player, a post scoring PF who commands double teams, plays defense, and rebounds. Unfortunately that doesn't happen, and if we hold out for that player, we'll be left holding our $ for years to come IMO. Our chance for a franchise player is through the draft, but we seem to be content on blowing that. Make a solid draft choice, get Marion, then use a combination of Miller + future draft choices + young talent to acquire that stud. That's more likely than actually signing him via free agency IMO.

Shawn THE MATRIX Marion (most versatile player besides KG)
Dalembert (is it so bad to have a young, athletic, albeit overpaid center?
Smith (also a pretty nice big man prospect)

throw in our first round pick in the high lottery, the pick we'll get when we move Miller, and I think that's a team you can build around

Marion's not opting out.

I wouldn't say it's totally irrelevant because it's not a given that he's not opting out. In all honesty, we should hope that he waits a year to hit the market because we do not want Miami to be a player this summer with more space than us.

Marion is less than the ideal fit, but he's a good enough player that he's still worth getting if there's a chance we could get him.

That being said, Miami is probably going to make every effort to resign him so there's a very small chance that we could get him now.

Yeah. With a good coach this lineup could be really good and fun to watch.

i hate marion!he always complains about people ignoring him and forgeting about his contribution etc..

I would not like Marion

Marion is showing that he is not a product of Phoenix' system. In his first game he with the Heat he scored 15 and grabbed 14 boards.

Tonight was his second game and all he did was score 23 and pull down 18 boards. As said before, he's not a bad backup option if we strike out with a couple of guys I rank ahead of him.
