OT: Heat Going After Brand?

Looking For A Big Man
Despite what they say in Miami, the consensus is the Heat will let Shawn Marion's deal expire after next season and head for a big man like Elton Brand, a free agent after next season whom Pat Riley tried to sign as a free agent in 2003.
Riley needs a big post-up presence. He doesn't really see the game otherwise, and the truth is, rarely has a team succeeded without one.

So what about Eddy Curry?

Riley isn't patient enough to wait two years for his team to develop, and he needs a big center. Curry could be that player. -- The Chicago Tribune

I know everyone's not sure about the injury, etc...but I'd LOVE Elton Brand no matter who we battle for him. It's easy to overthink these things sometimes. He'd be a beat next to a WS shotblocker like Sam, and he'd make everyone better.

LOL at your sig THFM

Wade/Brand sounds legit.

Imagine if they re-sign Marion for cheap and draft Rose.

Rose
Wade
Marion
Brand
Blount

That's a contender.

That's called a championship if they can get another person to come of the bench who is decent.

I think Brand is close to the ideal for the Sixers and would like to go after him if he's available, but Marion wouldn't be a bad consolation prize if he springs loose as the article seems to imply.

Yes, he isn't a real post player, but he's so good at so many things that it's still very tempting.

So many things that Thaddeus Young does.

Ron Artest is more of a difference maker then Shawn Marion for this team.

They both have their pros and cons (Artest is a stronger post player, Marion is a better rebounder), but I wouldn't mind getting either one honestly.

Brand is still coming back from a significant injury...the Sixers are supposed to break the bank to bring him in?? Pre-injury, it's a no brainer...he's a perfect fit. Now, I don't know if it's a risk worth taking.
