King: We Had A T-Mac For Hughes Trade With Toronto
February 21, 2008 - 2:38 pm
ESPN -
Billy King, who is now an analyst for ESPN, revealed a trade he had agreed upon with the Raptors when he was GM of the Sixers.

The Sixers would have sent Larry Hughes to Toronto for Tracy McGrady and a first round pick.

Stephen A. Smith broke the trade and the Raptors ended up getting cold feet and the deal fell through.

Right. It's a talking head's fault.... Because BK was such a master negotiator. . . . What a joke.

Perhaps ESPN gave BK a nice, comfy chair so he can sit back and watch someone like Rod Thorn negotiate. I guarantee you'll never hear Thorn or Stefanski blame members of the media post-facto.

Hey Billy- good job with Iverson, buddy. Was that Screamin' A's fault, too?

Now whether or not what King says is true is up for everyone's opinion, but if you re-read, King did not say HE pulled out of the trade.

Toronto probably would have pulled out anyway.

King sure makes a lot of excuses.

LOL my bad, I thought it read: Sixers ended up getting cold feet... Anyways how would this be SAS's fault?

The implication in the post was that the Raptors got cold feet because Stephen A. broke the story, which would make it Smith's fault.

That report isn't true. Either Hughes or McGrady failed their physical (I think Hughes) and that is why the deal fell through. Stephen A. Smith has nothing to do with this.

Now Houston has TMac and the formerly "untouchable" future TMac, as Boston fans used to call Gerald Green.

1) Old News; Larry Brown mentioned this publicly before

2) T-Mac wanted out of Toronto because he wanted to be the man; so we would have kept him until the end of the season when he was a FA and he would have left for Orlando anyway. Big deal.
