Gorden Giricek?

Post#1 » by ray ray » Sat Feb 23, 2008 11:42 pm

There has been some speculation that the 76ers were going to realease Gordon Giriceik. Is this true or did somebody just came up with that rumor??

I know that the Suns are ready to sign him if indeed he is realesed...

We should, but I'm not sure if we will.

Unless we're adding somebody useful or Giricek is causing real problems, I don't see the point of releasing him in the middle of a playoff race.

Considering he barely plays, and isn't apart of this teams future, and we have no chance of going anywhere this year, may as well negotiate a buy out and save 500,000 to a million(I'm looking at this from management's POV, not a fan's, so please don't start with me about "As a fan, why do you care about that saving money")

Other than an expiring contract, Giricek is of absolute no use to this team. I could see Giricek being unhappy here with no playing time at all and this team appeasing him by releasing him.

Personally, if a team like the Suns were interested in signing me, I would try to make as much noise to try to get off of a team that hasn't been playing him.

I find it interesting that you spelled his name in two different ways in your post and that both ways are incorrect.

I'd release him (& Admundson n Shavlik) hahaa

He serves little purpose on this team, and if some1 gets hurt, he might increase him minutes a little-- not like 10min a game tho.

Giri is a marginal asset, its not as if he is a leader and adding value (that we know of) behind the scenes.

release him, let him go wherever. and maybe that team pays us a favor down the road......

too bad we couldnt have traded him for a bag of balls or new uniforms at the deadline

i actually don't really see why he doesn't get more PT.

i'm not a fan or anything, but it doesn't seem fair that the guy is a somewhat accomplished NBA player and he's getting the Amundson treatment.

he may have been a pain in the ass in utah, but he's a pretty good player. he's probably the only guy on the team who can actually hit a three and yet he gets no playing time.

it must suck to be him.

i sense your sarcasm and i must say...i believe that was the point of the post. he doesn't play defense and thus, he gets no playing time.

but congrats.

absolutely no sarcasm!

Gordan Giricek is a very good defender, and the best 3PTS shooter on the team! He just has a bad season, next season he will be the old Gira!

Another scenario no one has mentioned however unlikely is that they sign and trade him to make the numbers work in a trade this summer.
Don't worry, that builds character and you can never have too much character...

Wiretap:

Giricek Close To Buyout?

Should Brent Barry choose to return to San Antonio, the Phoenix Suns may turn their attention to Sixers shooter Gordan Giricek, who the Arizona Republic is reporting could be bought out by Saturday.

If we have to spend money to buy out Giricek than how did we open up money for cap space in the Korver trade?

Giricek becomes a free agent this summer, whereas Korver still has years on his deal, so the trade opened up cap space that way. Buying out Giricek is all about saving ~ couple hundred thousand for the rest of this season.

You're not spending additional money to buy out a player: you're actually saving money. The player agrees to forgo some percentage of his remaining salary in exchange for letting him become a free agent early.

Because Korver was under contract next year.

http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/six ... ricek.html

Gordan Giricek could be on the verge of becoming a former 76er. According to a source familiar with the situation, the Sixers are planning to accommodate the Croatian swing man's request to be bought out of the remainder of his contract.

As long as Giricek is waived before midnight Saturday, he will be playoff-eligible if he signs with another team.

The source indicated that, as of now, his likely destination is Phoenix, although that hinges on a decision coming from veteran Brent Barry, recently waived by Seattle after being traded there by San Antonio.

This isn't shocking at all and obviously Gordon isn't getting any run here so no harm, no foul.
