Out of Lottery, who do we look at to Draft?

Post#1 » by Philly Family » Tue Feb 26, 2008 11:14 pm

Now that we are making our yearly push for the playoffs..we probably will not be in the lottery ( which is a victory in itself) . So who do we lik ein the middle of the first round if we are to be picking in the 16 to 18 range. Do we look at a point guard like Augustine of Collison from Ucla. Do we look big like a Jason Thompson or Kevin Love ? Who would you want and why ?

Augustin will easily be the second point guard taken and probably in the top 10 atleast.

If we are drafting after 15, I definitly think we should try to move up. If we aquire a PF via trade or free agency, what do you guys think about Gallinari

Trading up should always be a consideration.

Where they are now...Thompson would make as much sense as any. White, and either freshman (Patterson or Koufos) are also options that may be there.

Chris Douglas Roberts could be a possible pick. I wonder if Donte Green comes out? Brandon Rush, Darren Collison.

It's absolutely impossible to answer that right now without knowing who declares.

True enough. Position wise I would target PF or PG and look to move up to get the one I want. We won't bemoving up into the top 3 or 4, but moving from around 15 to 7-10 is more likely. If we pick up a late first ronder for cash I would look for a shooter or a developmental PG if we don't already have one from earlier in the draft.

Seeing as how he doesnt have the talent or upside of Rose, Bayless, Mayo, and maybe Collison, no he wont easily be the second point guard taken.

Not to mention who falls where in the lottery, which teams look to make trades, who measures in at what during the pre-draft camps, who works out well...etc. etc.

he meant his first 3 priorities are to trade up, but if that's not possible, then to take Jason Thompson. he didn't mean to trade up for Jason Thompson.

first of all. I said IF we land a good pf.

second, if that does happen, big man depth isnt that big of an issue, we have jason smith and reggie off the bench, not to mention other guys like shav(if he returns) and herb hill who should be healthy by that point. it wouldnt make sense to draft a big unless a really good one was on the board that you couldnt pass up.

Third,

What WOULD make sense however, is to draft a big sg that could allow lwill to be our pg. This guy reminds me alot of turkolu. It wouldnt hurt to land a guy with that skillset, especially while we are uncertain of igoudalas future here

What do you guys know about Griffin? I hear mixed reviews. His numbers look good and he has good size but I haven't seen him play.

I'd still take Kevin Love. If our pick stays where it is

If Kevin Love declares I think he will go higher than our current pick area, around 15th. He is under rated by the draft sites and some GM will take him in the top ten. Love is a player that would be reasonable to move up for and I would do it. My best guess right now is that at the middle of the first round we would be looking at Hendrix from Alabama and JJ Hickson form N.C. State as possible PF candidates. It does not look like a real great PG draft after Rose.
