Giri waived - what position should replace him?

Post#1 » by The76thDegree » Fri Feb 29, 2008 7:24 pm

With an open roster spot and with us being in playoff contention should we go for a shooter or should we go for a big? Which would help us more both now and in the playoffs? I say go for a big like Justin Williams who can run the floor and bring some energy and actually has a skill set unlike bizzaro. Anyone have any ideas or names that may be thrown around?

Edit: I didnt get this thread in fast enough but I think it should be more about what we need to do instead of being about him being waived, since its pretty clear cut why he was waived.

Well thanks for your insight on what should become of my thread but I think ill leave to to the mods to decide that. Like I said I want to talk about what to do and not about him

I'm not sure that there are any 3 point marksmen available for us. PF is a need, but that should either be addressed in the draft or FA.

Backup Center would be nice. Someone that can grab boards and play some D.

Even at that position, it'll be hard to find someone out there.

My thoughts exactly - Seeing as how 3 point shooting is not really our thing I would skip out on a shooter for the spot. I dont mean try to find a PF for the future just for right now. A guy who can provide some strength and rebounding and can run.

We can sign someone for the remainder of the season and it have no effect on the offseason.

what does it matter? There's two posts on the same topic, neither one of them had substantial material in them to differentiate. I locked one, kept the other open. Who cares which one got locked? It's nothing personal, there's just no need to have two open.

Sorry but I think mine was kept because the whole Giri being wavied can be summed up in one sentence. Im more concerned about what we can do with the spot now. Do we think defense, or speed or shooting or a little of both. Do we go with experience or some youth from the Dleague who may be better in our system. Things like that are the point of this thread.

Or it could be because of what dabods said above this post. Too slow with the typing yet again.

Awesome... so now this is a thread about the locking of other threads. I'll stick to the original Giricek thread that "ray ray" (???) created. :-)

I think we should just wait and see who gets cut within the next day and maybe go with one of them. With Ratliff going to detroit Im wondering if that Cheik Samb will get cut. I would look into him.

Back to the topic... am I wrong for thinking the team will not bring in another player? It makes sense to bring someone in but I just don't know that it will happen.

Is Fazekas still out there? What about Justin Williams?

Faz is with the clippers - Id definitely go with williams - In his limited time last season he had some decent numbers - Anythings better better than Booth - I get sick just from seeing his face I mean honestly what happened to it? was he seriosuly born that way? Well anyway - After tomorrow teams are no longer able to sign guys any more? The rosters are set?

Luke Jackson

I liked him in Toronto with the Raps so I'm biased.

I recall Narducci saying in his blog last week that if Giricek was released they would not pick up a body to replace him. We already have a bunch of young wing players and a slew of bench PF's (Randolph, Hill, Amundson) who seem to have been vanished like they were in the witness protection program through a combination of injury and suckitude.
