I'm a knicks fan and I'm curious what philly fans think of this trade:

Stephon Marbury

for

Andre Miller / Samuel Dalembert

Why for Philly:

For philadelphia this would be strictly a salary cap move. Marbury's contract ends at the end of next season and with Dalembert traded, as of now the sixer would only have about $9 million of guaranteed contracts at the end of next season. This would give them enough cap room to sign two major free agents. The Knicks could add a lottery protected pick or younger player like Renaldo Balkman to sweeten the deal.

Why for NY:

NY wants no part of Marbury any more. This would give NY a strong shot blocker in Dalembert (something NY desperately needs) and a good PG in Miller who also comes off the book at the end of next season.

Absolutely not.

Miller expires in 09 also. We can receive more value for Dalembert. The Sixers pass on this one.

As much as I want to unload Sammy, there is no way we dump Miller for an exp. contract.

how old are you? 5,6?

BTW this move puts the Sixers in a position to tank, and we've already learned that management does not want to go in that direction.

I don't follow the sixer, so i'm not sure what their rebuilding plan is. But I do know teams dump large salaries for expiring contracts. Look at the Pau Gasol trade this season or the Rasheed Wallace trade a few seasons back.

I asked a question, i figured fans like you would give a reasonable response. I guess I was incorrect.

You got reasonable responses. The team is not in a mode where vthey need to unload their players soley for cap relief. The should have 10M under the cap each of the next 2 summers (even after resigning Iguodala and Lou Williams.)

If we do trade away Millers expiring 10M contract next year it will be in the mode of how the Lakers used Kwame Brown's 10M expiring to get a star (Gasol.).

Sam is a 26 year old 10/10/2.5 center making a salary that is 15th for centers. The GM loves him, and he would only be moved as part of a big time trade that brought back a star (and not an expiring one.)

I agree, I did get reasonable responses. I was referring only to that one response.

It has been hard to be a Sixer fan these last few years, but I feel bad for die hard Knicks fans. No reason to even hold out hope until the Dolan/Zeke freak show is over.

Going from the Layden/Dolan to the Zeke/Dolan freak show has to be one of the worst eras in knicks history. I pray Zeke is gone at the end of the season.

I agree. As much as we complained about BK and friends, Dolan/Thomas have oppressed Knick fans. They just make bad move after bad move, and it won't stop unless someone is fired.

He already stated that he didn't know what the Sixers' rebuilding plan is. Obtaining as much cap space as possible is one way to rebuild. Trading for Marbury would achieve that.

Stop catching feelings, and let it go.

I feel your pain, even if I enjoy it. Your team absolutely needs to move a high-scoring PG before it can improve its miserable lot in life, however the PG that needs to be moved is currently retired and laughably holds the title of coach and GM/Team President/Chief Sexual Harasser. Marbury can stay or go, but until Zeke and papa Dolan's little brat are gone you are screwed.

BTW, no thanks on the trade, you keep the garbage, we'll keep our talented, if flawed, players. As a Knicks fan this has to be what you feel like most of the time:
