Which current sixer has the worst contract

Post#1 » by sixersinsider » Tue Mar 4, 2008 12:42 pm

With the season winding down and the recent play of the 76ers (10 of the last 13) the value of our players are increasing. Most fans this year are not looking forward to the nba draft (TANK) but are more concerned with the....BIG SPLASH....Their is a chance one of our core members will be moved ..via sighn and trade..(Dalla Miller Sammy) in an attempt to upgrade our core.To make salarys match we may be able to include our worst contract. who do you feel owns that contract?Should we pay lou willams as much as were paying green?

We have 2 guys in the 10 million dollar range (Dalembert & Miller). Dalembert might be a little overpaid but he is a center. Miller is not overpaid. Willie Green & Evans are rotation guys making less the the MLE. They might be slightly overpaid but not by much. Smith, Carney, Young, Lou Williams, & Iguodala are still on rookie contracts. They are not overpaid. Herbert Hill, Amundsen, & Shavlik are basically on rookie deals but they won't all have a future on the team. The core o the team is there. I wouldn't trade any of the starters (Iguodala, Dalembert, or Miller) unless I was getting an upgrade at their positions. I'd be reluctant to trade any of the rookies. But to answer the question, I don't think there is a "worst" contract.

This Question was posed because there is no really horrible contracts on the sixers team. But there is a contract( some one that is slightly overpaid by the smallest amount) that will have to be moved if we are to land a upgrade at any position(blood thirsty numero uno max player)(IT will be one of the Drays) that are moved which contract do you package with them

imo we don't have any bad contracts.sammy is a little overpaid, but that's the price for a double double shot blocking center around the league and willie's contract is a little too long..but that's it.

It's a small thing, but how in the world did a guy like Calvin Booth rate a two year contract from BK. He has done a nice job in his limited role, very professional and always ready to play, but guys like Booth at his age should be one one year contracts only. A team or mutual option year I could understand, but is there any chance in heck he doesn't invoke his player option next year?

It made me a little ill when the signed Booth to that deal because you knew they were going to cut either Byars or Hill without the fans ever getting a chance to see what they could do. The only positive about Booth's contract is that he signed for the veteran's minimum (meaning only a portion of it counts against the salary cap). BK would have given up a player with an non-veteran's minimum contract & a second round pick to get those savings. Maybe Ed can find another GM to do the same.

As others have said, we really don't have any bad contracts right now. If I had to pick one, I would say Evans because of length (3 years/$15/6MIL) which could make him a little harder to move but in all reality... 25+ other teams would probably kill to have that as their worst contract.

Of course we are limited to current Sixers, there are quite a few former Sixers that are still getting paid by us for not playing here or having already banked a buy-out, and even more bad contracts that we signed, but managed to trade for other bad contracts, Kenny Thomas springs to mind. Technically Webber is still part of our payroll for cap purposes.

eh i still think sams deal is too much...i do understand he is a center and they do get paid more but im still not a believer and really dont think hes played all that well since the middle of jan.

i think the dollars sometimes arent the issue in these contracts but its the years...willie green getting 5, sam getting 6, booth getting 2...it makes ppl virtually undtradable for 3 to 4 years bc of the length...

I'm thinking Evans but he's actually been pretty good lately. I would have to say him though until he starts hitting some free throws. You think that with all the money he's making he could hire someone to help him with those.

If you look at who goes against our cap this year:

Webber 20M+
McKie 7M

That is why we are over the cap. TRhankfully those guys are off our cap next year.
