Offseason Trades
I was wondering: Would it be possible in the offseason for the Sixers to trade someone making less than the MLE to a team over the salary cap, while taking little or no salary in return? Or would they be limited to teams that are below the cap? I could see Stefanski trying to move Green or Carney that way in order to clear up the space needed to make a big FA signing.

Got it. In that case, unless a deal can be pulled off involving one of the handful of teams that'll have some cap space, I've gotta wonder about Stefanski's judgment at the trade deadline. We obviously don't know what kind of deals were available to him, but an extra $2-$3m in space could end up being pretty important.

I think a lot of people agree with your last post. However, as many "experts" have said before, a lot of deals that happen on draft night and in the summer have their groundwork laid before the trade deadline. Perhaps Stefanski knows he make a move to free up a little more space on draft night or just before the FA signing period begins and decided to wait to allow this team to make a playoff push.
All we can do is wait and see. Stefasnki's honeymoon period goes on for about another 4 and a half months until August 1st. By the time we will know what Stefanski did on draft night and given him the time needed to either sign a FA or make a trade.
