Who is the 76ers Future Small Forward? Carney or Young??

After just watching 76ers game tonight and there great comeback in the 4th Quarter. Wittnessing a 40-20 4th Quarter comeback before that the 76ers were down by 16 heading into that Quarter. 70-86 and they came back with a 110-106 win great game, but thats not what this thread is all about.

I been wondering and thinking about this for awhile. Carney/Young play the same postion both picked high in the last two drafts, and both must be competing for the future starting small forward spot.

Before this game, I thought no doubt Young is our future small forward, but after his poor performance 2-6 with only 4 points in 23 minutes but how Rodney Carney stepped it up tonight in the 76ers win going 3-3 from beyond the arc ,6 Boards, and 18 points in two more minutes(25) and that was one of the reasons 76ers won tonight. Carney and Young are both arguably just as atheltic, but I still think Young will be our future small forward both. They are also both really talented prospects picked in the later part of the lottery and Carney showed why we picked him in the lottery a few short seasons ago..I say Young but its still up for debate.

By the way 76ers fan no way in hell Thaddeus Young will be our starting power forward we need to address that issue in the summer he is not a power, he is a small forward..so at Small Forward in say in the next 2-3 years who ya got?

Young or Carney, tell me who ya got by voting in the poll and voicing your opinion in this thread.

there is no debate. 23 year old carney has played well in 2 games in 2 years. 19 year old thad has played well in all but 2 games in less than a year.

hopefully, carney will make willie green expendable but truthfully he is a rotational player at best. Thad has star potential, like off the charts potential.

yes i was hoping carney can take wille green's spot if not i still like carney as a bench player he is showing he is actually worth something now

I think Hot Rod can be our 3 point shooter off the bench if he keeps playing this well. He can maybe???? fill Korver's role, although his game is pretty different than KKs. But I voted for Young as the future starter at SF, and I do agree that he would not be a good permanent fit at power forward. I hope we can get that PF we need this offseason.

Wow! Somebody has a case of the "whathaveyoudoneformelately's".

Thad might be struggling a bit having to play the SF, since his handle is still not an asset and he doesn't have as much of a quickness advantage over SF's. No doubt, in a year or two he will be blowing it up as a SF.

Carney- the last 2 game give me hope that he can at least be an asset of some sort. I hated watching his jump shot through most of this season.

Both will be starters at forward.

Miller
Iguodala
Carney
Young
Dalembert

I haven't seen any Sixers games recently, but I can imagine that this lineup is deadly on the fastbreak.

How come it's always a member with only like 3 posts that create threads like these? Everytime I see these threads I just KNOW that whoever created it is going to have a post count that's under 100. It's like once members get over a certain amount of posts they solidify that they have accountability for what they are saying.

Boy oh boy, all it took was 2 decent games back to back for Carney to be the Small Forward of the future...

And some posters no matter the number of their post have no accountability for what they are saying.

Thad looks like he has star potential. Carney lately has finally looked like he can be a contributor off the bench if he can gain some consistency. No contest.

Thad, easily.

But if they continue to play this way, Green, Carney and Evans should have vastly improved trade value this summer (just in case).

Make that 54, sir and I have more accountability in 54 of my posts then ur 1,000 posts mr.big shot now.

Wow, no both were picked high I been wondering this since we picked both to be honest i thought 76ers should of picked Al Thorton instead.

This is something I been wondering for awhile and yes everyone thinks Young is soo much better but I still think it isn't Carney has shown when given minutes he can produce and dont care what people say its still up for debate and doesn't matter how many posts you got..and no it didn't its been something i have been thinking about all season long. So don't think im not legitimate just because i dont have over 100 posts, GTFO of here with that junk. :wavefinger:

Did anybody's "irony meter" go off with this post? Besides the "accountability" comment, this is coming from a poster who's been here all of 3 months, responding to a poster who's been here 2 years. Apparently now free time equates to intelligence.

My irony meter exploded about a week ago when some guy who joined this forum in late February made a thread talking about how he hates new Sixer fans.

Also... since when did post count translate into intelligence??

Trust me, i would have more posts but for some reason cause i had a free e-mail address realgm wouldnt activate my account until recently, and yea how do post counts=Intelligence just because we haven't wasted our lives on the computer all day long doesn't mean i dont know what im talking about damn right guilty party. I been on this site since 06, so dont look at my post count look at the date since i have been here.

This is serious discussion I know everyone thinks its defintley Young, but lasts night play of Carney opened up for debate and I really thought Carney should get more minutes and given a chance to shine. These guys are only a rookie, sophmore you guys don't have a magic ball to predict who will be better..so as far as im concerned its still a debate until both mature and if Carney keeps playing well, maybe we can use him in a package in the summer and both of these guys could be starters in the future my question is who the sixers got for future, my vote is young don't get me wrong but its not over.

Carney can get more minutes, but Thad is the SF of the future. Carney at best fills KK's role as the 3pt shooter off the bench (yes...I know KK often started), but he doesn't have the all around game that Thad has demonstrated so far. Carney is either playing himself into more minutes, or more value as a trade chip.

There is nothing wrong with having 2 good players at that spot. Stefanski said he wants an up tempo style of play. To do that it helps if you have a deep bench so you can keep rotating in fresh bodies and keep the pressure on the other team.

If Carney is playing like he belongs on this team, we still need more depth on our bench.

Now that we have 3 guards/wings that can score off the bench(Green, Williams, Carney), teams should fear us.

Have Carney and Young gotten to play on the floor at the same time? Did it work?

This.

Carney is still basically working on impressing enough to try and still be in the league in a couple years.

Both will be starters at forward.

Miller
Iguodala
Carney
Young
Dalembert

You can't fastbreak if you don't get rebounds.

Young might eventually develop into a decent rebounder for a PF. But with the exception of the last 2 games, Carney has been a dreadful rebounder for a SF.

Forgot about Carney's rebounding....

What have his strengths been the past few games?

I noticed that he's been scoring and making big plays in times of need. Has his passing or court awareness improved at all?
